Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Jason on 09-30-2013

This beer is defined by its pronounced hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. It has a solid malt backbone that works with the citrusy American hops. The hop bouquet resonates like flavors of tangerine and ruby red grapefruit. The mouth feel is crisp and dry leaving a balance of bitterness and rich malt on the palate. It is golden honey in color.

On tap, poured into a pint glass.
Appearance - gold with lame carbonation. Thin white head leaves surprisingly sticky lacing.
Smell - I get more citrus and pine in the hops and a hint of sour dough in the malt.
Taste - a little more one sided with the hops overpowering a bit, though I'm not complaining!
Feel - an initial lingering of unattractive bitterness on the tongue that quickly transitions into a refreshing and fairly balanced finish.
Overall - a pretty tasty brew actually, one that I had low expectations delivered a very nice surprise!

16oz Pour from the source in Boulder, CO

A – Pours a nice crystal clear orange, head is straw colored and not too tall. Lacing left behind is consistent and adequate. Very nice.

S – Strong citrus notes, very very fresh, balancing malt notes come through.

T – Very clean and refreshing, pine notes come out here, and a little bit of tropical fruit tones as well. No one flavor dominates the rest, the balance is nice here.

M – Carbonation levels are near perfect, if anything it is approaching the high side, making this a very drinkable and approachable brew.

O – Better than I anticipated, this is a very solid IPA, it wouldn't make sense to bottle this, but it is a nice option to have at the brewery, very solid offering.

Really quite delicious... this beer poured at Fate's taproom was golden in color and not the least bit clouded.

I wasn't expecting much from it, as Fate is not one of the better known Boulder breweries. However, this beer surpassed expectations. There isn't an overpowering aroma, but upon the first sip the hops that are hiding from the smell spring forward onto one's palate. A steady stream of Pacific Northwest hops (6 varieties!) assault the senes. A strong taste of red grapefruit pours forward, and the more one drinks of this the stronger the tropical fruit flavors come through.

The beer is remarkably drinkable.. fans of Firestone's Union Jack would be very appreciative of this beer. Even with a strong 7.2% ABV the beer goes down like water. Recommendable to anyone near Boulder... and a growler of it is an excellent idea!

On tap at the brewery in Boulder, I ordered a 10oz and I think I paid $3. Orange color, soapy head, looks fine though served in a very odd glass. Aroma was hops butour the muddled fruity kind, no specific fruits like citrus or berries. Flavor was disappointing at first but I think it was too cold. As it warmed the fruit aspect was nice, malts were good and the bitterness level worked. A decent beer even though it's not really up my alley when it comes to IPA.

this pours a clear brassy color from the tap, plenty heady, white froth spilling over the lip of the pint glass. the nose here isnt super hoppy, more like a classic american pale. unfortunately nothing distinct about the hops either, this beer seems like an afterthought for fate, who clearly has both the intellectual capacity and brewing moxie to pull of some amazingly clever and well done beers. generic in hop character too, i mean, its light and drinkable enough with a touch of honey sweetness from the malt, and not a ton of bitterness on the back end. mass appealing in that way, but it blends into the crowd way too much for me, nothing special at all about the hops. it needs either more late kettle or dry hops to really even get hoppy enough to fit the style. not a bad beer in any way, with a nice rich round body and good carbonation, but it could be any one of a million others out there...

Color and structure very typical for a west coast IPA. However the nose tells you this beer is well above average in the crowded field of IPAs. Very nice grassy citrusy nose followed by intense fruity pebbles taste somewhat balanced by the resinous hop profile. Love this beer.
