On tap at Whole Foods in Venice, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and coffee bean aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, vanilla, coffee bean, and slight char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with nice cocoa and coffee aspects, but I am not getting any bourbon barrel qualities from this one.
Serving type: on tap.
