Canned on 3/20/15. Poured into a tulip glass.

L - An aggressive pour yields two fingers of sticky eggshell foam. Nice lacing clings to the glass for the duration. The head settles to a frothy cap atop the beer. Color is a not-so-clear deep gold, with noticeable hop particles floating throughout.

S - Aroma pops with massive notes of juicy, ripe tropical fruits. Mango, papaya, kiwi, stone fruits, and citrus. Clean ale yeast against a base of slightly sweet, crackerish malts. A good swirl yields notes of lemon candy and mild alcohol phenols. As the beer warms to room temp, a prominent apricot aroma surfaces.

T - Waves of the delicious tropical fruit, stone fruit, and citrus notes that the aroma promised blanket the palate, quickly giving way to a pithy citrus rind bitterness. The malt backbone provides just enough balance with some sweetish cracker-like flavors. Finishes nicely dry.

F - Slightly oily, slick, and medium-bodied. Perfect level of carbonation that doesn't augment the hop bitterness.

O - A wonderful IPA bursting with delicious bitterness and bright notes of fresh fruits. Seek this out.

Nice enough look, cloudy amber with a decent head. Decent aroma of fruity hops with a strong malt-honey sweetness. Mild hop taste, but mostly a malt-bomb, with a slightly stale aftertaste. Too heavy in the mouthfeel. Not very good, but I suspect the can was a bit past its prime.

Delirious aroma of passion fruit. I see this has Citra hops, which seems to be the hop it has in common with Fortunate Islands, also with that passion fruit taste. Bright and spritzy.

What a delightful beer, I forget it's an IPA! The bitterness just seems to enhance the crisp, refreshing quality, rather than drag you down with a harpoon line wrapped around your peg leg. Lightly but tastily malted with just enough body. Wonderful aromatics, and then the flavor flares up with fermented pineapple and a sweet yet tangy taste.

For a place not generally known for IPAs, Modern Times proves they can make an excellent version of most any style. The exalted beings at Alpine should taste this. From the 16 oz can purchased at Barons Market on West Point Loma.

I don't normally write reviews and I never write bad reviews, but i feel like i have to speak out for this one. Modern Times has produced amazing beer for every batch of their core beers and special release beers I have encountered... except for the Booming Rollers cans dated 2.20.15. All I tasted is butterscotch and Buttered Popcorn with some slight bitterness. Anyone who knows better... DIACETYL. So I'm writing this to let you all know if you get a can of Booming Rollers and its dated 2.20.15 and it tastes bad, well you aren't the only one.

The only reason I'm NOT giving this a 0/5 is because I had previous batches (on tap and in can) that were at least a 4/5. The diacetyl in the 2.20 batch of cans i got were enough to give a 0/5; which i don't think is harsh at all considering how on point all of their core and special release beers are.

My 100 review for this style!! Pour from can dated 2/17 with a one finger white head, ok lacing. A solid citra IPA in the aroma and taste. Mouthfeel was sticky to the tongue. I must have again!

As fresh as I'm going to get this as a Northern California Native. Canned 14 days ago.

Super refreshing IPA with a drying and crisp mouthfeel. Lingering finish keeps you begging for another sip.

Lighter tropical fruits. Primarily a Lemony - Pineapple forward flavor and grapefruit.

Nothing is over the top. The balance is amazing. This does everything you want a hop forward IPA to do while staying subtle.

This is the ideal warm sunny day IPA you want to crack a few of while sitting on any patio with a view. Very good stuff.

12 oz can poured into can glass

A: nice dense creamy looking head, great clarity, slightly amber colored yellowish in color

S: Pure stone fruit deep lush grass and a lot of sweet caramelized candy fruit smell

T: candied fruits very sweet tasting and grassy taste with an almost overripe fruit taste ends very abruptly. Lots of soft fruit tastes with cantaloupe and smooth sugary finish

M: medium to light feel

O: I'm smitten with these guys and I absolutely adore Citra hops this is like Zombie Dust but very easy to get so it can't be as good right!? Love this beer.

Quick review notes:

Absolutely gorgeous beer; pale orange and crystal clear, topped with a good size snow-white head with excellent retention. Nice lacing.

Aroma is very hop-forward, but less demonstrative than I anticipated. Lots of citrus juice and slightly herbal hops.

Flavor is very balanced between hops and malt, with citrus and tropical fruit, sweet, earthy herbal notes, and a thick, buttery, wheat-and-grain malt profile. Buttery flavor builds as it warms, to its detriment.

Lovely mouthfeel; exceptional drinkability, smooth, medium-bodied.

This is an excellent beer, with great balance which showcases the hops without being over the top. The only complaint is the buttery component to the flavor that becomes a little too strong as the brew warms.

16 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Clear golden orange. Small white head and very thin collar.

Smell - Nice citra hop. Sweet crystal malt aroma. Slight tropical fruit.

Taste - Less citrusy. More tropical fruit. Some herbal hop flavors too. Lots of crystal malt sweetness. Some toasty flavors.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Mild bitterness.

Overall - The citra in the aroma is promising, but the taste is just a bit lacking.

All-around solid IPA. Nice use of citra hops, creating a bouquet of tropical notes and stone fruit. Smooth and creamy on the finish, but lacked the punch I like from a well-hopped beer. Solid lacing was left on the glass, if you're into that sort of thing. I admit that I am, at times, but would prefer the aroma and flavor to knock my socks off. That said, I would drink this one again.

A: Pours a clear pale orange with a 1-finger thick white head which fades to the rim and leaves spotty lace.

N: Juicy tangerines, grapefruit, orange, and lemon pith. Hello citra hops.

T: Good balance of citrus and pine bitterness with soft bready sweetish malts.

M: Semi-moderate body and medium carbonation. Resiny, dry and bitter finish.

O: Yeah Citra! Enjoyed this.

Poured from a growler into a LA teku. Had a taster of this yesterday at the brewery and was very impressed.

A: Crystal clear dark golden body with a small head that recedes quickly. Moderate lacing remains after a swirl.

S: Leafy hops. Pineapple, orange flesh, and honeydew melon. A bit of catty pine. Great aroma. Backbone of caramel malt as it warms. Beautiful.

T: Sweet pineapple, mango, and orange pulp. A bit of bready malt on the back of the palate. Gentle bitterness. Classic Citra.

M: Soft, airy mouthfeel with a slight carbonic bite. Love it.

O: Stoked to finally have visited this brewery, and this didn't dissapoint. Great showcase of Citra in a moderate ABV package. Love it!

Looks like a can but it is recyclable
Smells great.
Tastes pretty freaking great, especially because it was canned 6 days ago.
Feels nothing like the butter everyone else is talking about
Overall this beer could be slammed on multiple beaches in Southern California with not a single lifeguard batting an eye.

A: hazy golden amber. 1/2 finger white head

S: pineapple mango, sweet grapefruit, bready malt

T: follows the nose. Pineapple, mango, strawberry, bitter (yet mild) grapefruit, passionfruit, biscuity malts. Ends with a bit of earthy dankness

M: medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation

O: another solid beer from modern times. Nice tropical notes in here balanced with a mild bitterness.

Purchased at bevmo with cans dated 2/20/15. I agree with the butterscotch taste which is more apparent as it warms. Still very good and smooth ipa.

16 oz can poured into nonic pint

A: Clear golden-tan in appearance, the effervescent brew forms a wispy head that leaves almost no lacing.

S: Hop-forward bouquet with distinct notes of orange zest and tropical pith. Caramelly, with honeyed biscuits anchoring the aromas.

T: Tropical notes at the front of the palate, really nectar-y, like tropical butter. Leafy, fresh hop-astringency plays nicely against the caramelly malts. Medium finish with lingering sugars between sips.

M: Oily slick, but ample carbonation keeps the palate clean.

Another delicious brew from MT. Tastes like it comes from San Diego, but doesn't taste like any other beer.

Was really excited about this one, and overall, I'd say it's a very good IPA from Modern Times. Was expecting slightly more Citra notes given the beer's description, but independent of that, Booming Rollers still possessed the type of dry and fruity finish you look for. Definitely an enjoyable, medium-bodied IPA that won't disappoint, nor will it come off as a hop bomb by any means.

Smell: Tropical and Piney.
Taste: More piney than tropical.
Feel: More carbonated than I like and some lingering bitterness.
Overall: Another solid offering from Modern Times.

Nectar-like citrus flavors come through right away Pineapple, and a slight grassy/onion taste.. Some grapefruit bitterness. Very session like with a low malt character.

16.9 oz can pours a slightly hazy deep golden hue with a white foamy head.

Citra hops all day, being tropical, piney, earthy and herbal all at once. Pale malts and just a hint of wood also come through, wood notes being hop oriented of course.

The flavor is bright with hoppy tropical notes of pineapple, mango, grapefruit rind, orange, lemon oil and dank herb.

Smooth and full bodied ale that drinks easily though the hop oils do build. Make no mistake this is a biting IPA made for hop heads. The flavor is two fold with fruit and bitterness,

Overall, an outstanding West Coast IPA right from the source. Fresh and delicious. Bitterness gives way to a fruit smoothie like flavor from serious Citra hop additions. Great beer.
