August 10th, 2015 - Modern Times' Mega Black House has much of the same flavor as the Nitro Black House, though perhaps a touch sweeter, lifted by cocoa powder. And the hazelnut aroma is much clearer here too. But the taste is unexpectedly mild, especially against their other big and burly beers. It starts quiet and a little overly malty, but the alcohol works in the background, offering some strength, and especially so in the aftertaste.

A 22 fl. oz. bomber with no clear bottled on or best before date. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Dark dark brown in colour with a half finger dark tan head that dissipated fairly quickly to a ring around the glass while leaving some spotty lacing.
Aroma: Roasted malts, coffee, cocoa and chocolate.
Taste: Roasted malts, lots of coffee, some cocoa and chocolate with hints of caramel.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with low to moderate carbonation.
Overall: Nice coffee coming from the aroma and taste, but body is a bit light and carbonation perhaps a touch too much. Nevertheless, it was still extremely drinkable.

Pours a very dark blackish brown, with low, quickly fading foam.
Smell is a fat fist of coffee, with some caramel and toasted notes.
Taste is also very coffee forward, with more roasted notes, and some chocolate toffee on the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium, a bit too thin for the ABV.
Overall, a stout that was remarkably drinkable for 10 %, but a little bit too thin for me.

Bomber poured into a snifter glass.
A - pours a pitch black color with a tan head that lingers.
S - Aroma of coffee, malts, and cocoa.
T - Bitter sweet chocolate, malts, coffee and a light caramel flavor.
M - Smooth and viscous mouthfeel. Hardly any noticeable carbonation.
O - I liked this one much more that I anticipated. A solid non barrel aged stout that i would definitely buy again.

650ml bottle poured into a snifter.
It pours a very deep ruddy brown to almost black in color. The pour quickly builds up very thick creamy tan froth that well retains itself with good retention before slowly collapsing to an everlasting foamy layer atop and leaving some lacing patch and spot behind.
The aroma is led by rich and intense note of espresso coffee. It is not that so much astringent or sour being focused on pure aromatic coffee scent. There are also notes of creamy sweet and dark chocolate, some cocoa, roasted, dark bread, smooth oat, some vanilla, and spicy hop as a nice complement.
Big espresso coffee coats through the palate sensation. Then it is creamy and dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted coffee bean which is slight astringent and sour, vanilla, dark bread, creaminess and smoothness from oat, as well as moderate bitterness from both roasted malt and hop. That bitterness is also well lasting in the aftertaste together with all the coffee flavors.
Full body with chewy and smooth mouthfeel but it is not so hefty in feeling being a bit thin instead. The feeling is a bit crisp with rather low to moderate carbonation but it is good enough to carry all the things well. Finish is pleasantly dry.
Coffee, coffee, and coffee are what I got. This one is an excellent coffee Stout that will satisfy both coffee and beer aficionado without fail. Alcohol is also well hidden, very good sipping beer. The more the beer get settled the more mellowness you will get, so, take time and enjoy!

This is exceptional. Just a big, massive, brawny imperial coffee oatmeal stout - jet black, tan head, GINORMOUS coffee and dark chocolate/stone fruit aromas.
And they're somehow amped up on the taste. This isn't barrel-aged, so it really shouldn't be compared to KBS, but it reminded me of that beer with the huge coffee and chocolate flavors it offered up. I wish I'd purchased more of this, because it's truly world-class, IMHO.

Very solid coffee stout from Modern Times. This was my first MT beer and it did not disappoint. The coffee notes were very fresh and not overpowering. A well balanced version of the typical coffee stout.
