Looks like no other beer I've ever had, it looks 'earthy.' Honestly, if I hadn't known the beer style prior to pouring this pint I would have guessed it to be a brown ale.

Very fruity, notes of guava, fig, and dank nug.

Tastes of dark tropical fruit, orange peel, guava, and possibly passion-fruit. I'm honestly getting a red starburst taste on the backend, fucking delicious.

Mouthfeel is thick and sweet with a dank hop bitterness that balances this brew perfectly.

Overall a spectacular red/amber ale. Every time I think I don't like reds/ambers, there is a brew like this to change my attitude.

Poured from a fresh tall-boy into a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Carrot orange to amber gradient, good clarity, plugged by a thumb of champagne souffle. Superior retention, thick, eggy lacing.

Dank, fruity aromatic assault with guava, persimmon, orange peel, mint/thyme/marijuana filling the air. A sweet gently candied malt note comes across as well.

Intense tropical fruit is smothered by an equally intense herbaceous hop flavor burst - as if you were chewing on whole flowers mixed with Starburst. You can sort of pick out individual flavors now and then (passion-fruit from the Nelson; tangerine from the Simcoe, a wide array from the Mosaic), but the bitterness wakes you from any analytic reveries you may be nursing. The toasty Munich malt and dough-y Midnight wheat add a characterful balancing sweetness into the medium-dry finish where the hop flavors have their last stand before dissipating.

Medium-bodied, well carbonated, slightly oily yet refreshing.

While I generally prefer ambers from the Pacific Northwest (nothing pairs so well with fresh caught salmon) - I will add this to my shortlist of SoCal beers (Hop Head Red; My Bloody Valentine, etc.) that make the style their own.

A- Pours a dull ugly copper with a 2 finger off-white head that has some staying power. Decent legs on the lacing. Not 100% sure what to call it, but I wouldn't say amber.

S- Really picking up on the Nelson and Mosaic (which I like). Dank, onion-y, bright zesty fruits. touch of caramel.

T- Follows nose well. Clean tropical fruits that lead the way to a sweet malt backbone. Bitter without getting too crazy

M- Outstanding. Mid body, dry finish, and very drinkable. Chewy, yet clean finish.

O- Wasn't all that impressed when it hit the glass, but different story in it hit my lips. Just a really well done IPA that embraces the Nelson and Mosaic throughout. One of the better hoppy "ambers" I have had.

The Wine Club in Santa Clara got a new shipment of Modern Times! Poured from a can into a pub glass.

A - Crystal clear deep amber color with 2 fingers of off-white bubbly head.

S - Whoa! Dank! Lots and lots of stinky hops, just like the can says. I'm trying really hard to get any other aromas with no avail, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

T - Where did the hops go? Taste is distinctively malty and bready up front and gives way to some citus. A bit of hop bitterness at the end.

M - A little thin up front, but finish is clean thanks to how bitter it is. Easy to keep drinking.

O - Hop aroma is a punch in the face, but is followed by a drinkable beer with nice aggressive flavor. I could see myself drinking a few of these out on the golf course.

Pours with a very thick, creamy white head that leaves a nice lace around the glass. The head on mine dwindled down just a bit, but It could be my glass. Smells like fall. Tart grapefruit maybe some pepper. Smells like hop heaven. Awesome! Tastes almost like a bitter. Some cinnamon flavors, a bit of citrus in the background. Doesn't taste like it smells, but this is a fabulous tasting beer. Yum. Would like to have this on cask. Thick and creamy in the mouth. A bit sticky. Surprisingly not too heavy. I could see myself drinking these after a hard day of work trying to quench my thirst. This is a delight. So glad I picked this up!

A: Hazy brown color with amber orange at the edges, pencil thin off white head that leaves lacing

S: Sweet tropical fruit, resinous pine, herbal spice

T: Follows the nose nicely, fruity hops, sharp resinous pine bitterness, finishes with sweet amber malt flavors and aromatic lingering hops

M: Light carbonation and medium feel with a nice aromatic finish

O: Ambers can often be bland or unremarkable but this was a really good departure from the norm. Great hop aroma but not overly bitter. A balanced and very drinkable beer. I will seek out more of this!

This beer is initially not as bright as I was expecting, both in flavor and appearance. It pours a slightly hazy amber with good off-white head and lacing that's almost whipped in its softness. I know it says amber on the can but for whatever reason I expected it to be a true red.

Similarly, I expected it to taste really bright and juicy right off the bat like a Hop Head Red or Lucky 13. But it's not an imperial red, however it does open up to become pretty juicy in its own way, with notes of pineapple, guava, strawberry, citrus and pine. All this is muddled with a pleasant caramel sweetness. There are some dank, swampy notes too. Pretty impressive actually for a 6.8% ABV beer. A highly crushable and unique beer.

Smell leaves a little something to be desired. There are faint whiffs of honey, pineapple and lemongrass, but it's all muddled together.

Mouthfeel is nice -- a little sticky and chewy, which you usually only find in higher ABV brews. Semi-dry finish that let's the hops shine. I dig it.
