Poured into a standard pint glass, Beck's had a golden-yellow appearance. The slightly bitter smell hinted at what was to come. The beer had a watery feel and was overwhelmingly bitter. Too bitter. I can't imagine having more than one or two. There may be people who appreciate a really bitter beer, but I don't, so...

Short and sweet:

Party beer, and I would walk past it if it wasn't on sale.

This beer sampled as part of a tasting tonight. You kinda forget how nice this beer is in its simplicity and elegance.

Fairly standard when compared to other authentic German pilsners. What stands out is a very rich boquet of floral hops that hint toward fruitiness, herbal notes, and a nectar-like character that accents the sweet pilsner malt flavors and aromas. Light sulfers give the beer teeth, but that floral hop aroma and flavor supresses any would-be match stick sulfery character. Round and moderately creamy with a mild hint of grain astringency. Finishes crisp and with a balanced hop-malt lingering. A terrific small beer.

Haven't had this in years! Can't believe i used to drink it like it was going out of style!

What can i say? A pale golden pour with some good carbonation. Head fades fast. The nose leaves much to be desired. Taste wise, geez, I dunno. It's pretty much bland. A little malt. A little grain. Big bitterness on the finish. Not a world class pilsener but better than alot of macros. Easy drinkin but you probably don't want too many of a mediocre beer.

For nostalgic reasons I can't completely slam Beck's. If i'm watching a soccer game in the middle of summer, one or two of these might go down my throat.

Appearance – Very light, diluted yellow in color with a big, foaming head that went down quickly but left some nice lacing.

Smell – The typical grainy aroma is not as bad as in most other macros. There’s a slight sweet note to this one as well that makes it smell almost palatable.

Taste – The grain really softens up making this one not so bad. The even sweetness comes out fairly well.

Mouthfeel – Little carbonation helps this light-bodied ale go down pretty good. Usually you would want more carbonation here, but since most efforts at the style end up with cheap, fizzy carbonation I think it was best here to not make the attempt.

Drinkability – This went down much better than your average macro swill.

This beer used to be one of my fav's untill I discovered what else was out there. But tonight I decided to try a bomber bottle of this stuff just for old times sake. It poured a straw color with minimal white head that did not last long but left a decent lace around the glass. Smell was skunky but the taste has a good balance of malt sweetness and a little hop bitterness. If you can get past the smell, you can drink quite a few of these suckers. It is a decent session brew, but nothing close to lowenbrau as far as "mass produced" german beers.

Sampled this one on a Friday evening at work. Clear light yellow pour with a thin white head and fast bubbling carbonation. Fairly standard for a Euro lager. Aromas of sweet grain with a big helping of skunkiness. Maybe a hint of spicy hop bit it's hard to discern.

First sip brings a crisp, sweet grainy pale malt that has the same residual skunkiness. Fairly sweet with a mellow spicy herbal hop. Almost creamy on the way down. Not bad...but there's so much better out there.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with ample carbonation. There's actually a nice body to this compared to most Euro lagers. Easy enough to drink..but it really doesn't grab my attention at the same time...just puts me through the motions of drinking it. Worth it if there's nothing else better around.

12oz green bottle better before en 09 2007 in the back label

the appearance is a very light golden brown, but like i said very pale, with a small white head that's go out almost inmediatly.

It smells like hops a little litte bit, very nice smell for mass import.

The taste is really nice. Is not a hard taste, very easy to drink, This is not the best beer i have taste but i could drink this more often.

beck's is a good German beer. beck is a nice balance between ultra strong and subtle beer. one of my all time favorite. very smooth, and not watered down, yet not motor oil. very addictive beer, once you start it's hard to stop. excellent draft or out of the mini keg. also fun to try to peel the foil wrapper off without breaking it, a challenge after you have had 5 or 6.

Presentation: Poured from a 24oz green bottle into a tall flute glass.

Appearance: It pours a very pale yellow color with great clarity and a tall fizzy white head. The head faded fast and left behind no lace.

Smell: The aroma had a light skunky aroma over light floral and grassy hop notes.

Taste/Mouth feel: There was a delicate grainy malt with some floral hops that finished on a skunky note. Its palate was thin with a watery texture and fizzy carbonation.

Notes: Not sure if I got a bad bottle but it was consumed well before the freshness date on the label.

I do like Beck's and other German pilsner's. It's a good beer that's almost available everywhere here that is distinctive by comparison to the mainstream beers here in Saskatchewan.

Appearance: Pale yellow and when poured into a glass, creates a foamy white head that doesn't last. There is very little lacing and what is there also doesn't last. Overall appearance is very average.

Smell: Skunky at first, then a peppery hops smell takes over. Smells a bit sweet as well. Because the skunk smell goes away almost straight away, I don't find this offensive at all and the end smell is ok. Definitely tastes better than it smells.

Taste: I like this beer, especially just drinking it sitting around on the deck. I'm typically an ale drinker, the wife's drinking an Irish ale beside me right now, but a change of pace is always a good thing. Becks has a nice sweet taste to it, you can easily detect the hops, there is no bitterness and has no offensive aftertastes.

Mouthfeel: pretty good considering! Its medium bodied, thickens up a bit then smoothens out. There is quite a bit of carbonation, but that's expected.

Drinkable: quite, this to me could be an everyday beer if I didn't like some others. Beck's isn't my first choice, but I do buy it from time to time along with Lowenbrau, Dab, Holsten, and Warsteiner when I want a German beer without needing to go on a long search for one.
