look: 1.25 | smell: 1.5 | taste: 1.75 | feel: 2 | overall: 1.75

Poured from a green bottle into a beer mug.
Pours a pale yellow color that doesn't look very tasty with a pretty good foam head that dissipates quickly.

Smells like a watery Euro pale Lager.

Tastes like a watery/mild bitter german pilsner/euro pale lager. Hoppy, and watery.

Smooth, lightish carbonation, goes down easy.

Overall, cheap and uninteresting, thin and underwhelming.

Appearance is a pale straw like color with an average head.
On the palate it is smooth and slightly bubbly.
You can taste and smell the hops.
Overall a mild lighter beer that is not too bitter.

Sometimes a Pilsner, no matter how well made, is just a beer. This one has the correct light color tone, malt and hops are moderate, so to say, but nothing really memorable. It's nice enough but cheap AALs give it a run for the money. A drop in the veritable ocean of generic European Pilsners.

Purchased in a 500ml can, chilled to 3 degrees C, and poured into a European style stein.

Look: Lackluster golden-yellow color, not terrible but not incredible. Very little head that easily dissipates. Consistent flow of bubbles that slowly rise, minimal lacing. 2.5

Smell: Skunky, slight hints of lemon and grass. Surprised by the skunking effect considering it's from a can. 1.5

Taste: Skunky, as expected after smelling. Not much more to say, as the skunk effect ruins any other flavour. 1.0

Feel: Slightly dry, moderate carbonation. 2.0

Overall: One word can sum this beer up, "Skunky". One word can describe my experience, "Disappointed". 1.75
I wanna add, this beer cost me 2.70, the price of the average micro brewery can. Would never purchase this again, and will tell friends not to try either.

Poured out of its green bottle, this clear yellowish.... beer is somewhat good but nothing extraordinary. The foam doesn't stay, and the smell is like all other commercial beer. For the taste it is a bit more bitter than the commercial, so a little bit more interesting than other beer found in liquor stores.

The color SRM 1 or 2 give a nice look to the glass.

The 330 ml bottle retailed for 2.50$ (CAD)

Nice beer in overall.

This beer isn't that bad. Not one I'd seek out, but I'll take it. I am a sucker for any beer made under the guidelines of reinheitsgebot, so maybe a tad inflated numbers. Out of a can, this beer pours a light golden color. With an aggressive pour, I get a few inches of a head, but if you blink you miss it. I get an aroma similar to a Heineken, even though this was brewed using the reinheitsgebot, so maybe corn and rice don't affect aroma after all. Refreshing, crisp, yet practically flavorless taste. If you go digging for some flavor, you might get a hint of sweetness and ever so slight bit of spice from the hops used in this, but you have to really REALLY dig for it.

Yeah, my rating makes no sense. All I can think is that German U-Boaters drank this in Das Boot. It used to be better but it's still Beck's. So, the beer is just so so. The Beck's key is Key!

i'm basing this rating by having this beer on tap. i have drank beck's from the bottle countless times and it is always skunked beyond belief. do yourself a favor and find it on tap and never trust a green bottle.

This is my uncle's beer of choice. We don't quite see eye to eye.

Look: Slightly yellow bubbly water. Decent head, dissipates quickly.

Smell: Skunky "left on the patio" ale

Taste: Not as bad as the smell, almost enjoyable. Not much to it. Slighly off cereal/tonic water.

Feel: Smooth, slightly bubbly water.

Overall: I'm not a fan. Wouldn't bother with trying it again.

22oz bottle into imperial pint glass.

A: Pours a very light yellow color beneath a fizzy bright white head that disappeared into a lasting collar. A few spots of soapy lace were left down the glass.
S: The smell does have a distinctive German scent as opposed to a Czech or light American pilsner. I detect a hint of skunk, but it’s not overpowering.
T: The taste has an unpleasant metallic rust flavor to it mixes with otherwise decent notes of crisp bready grains and noble hops. There is a touch of skunk but it’s not terrible. Flavor is predominantly grainy with a touch of peppery hops. Finishes lightly sour but not as bad as some. Aftertaste has just a kiss of sweetness.
M: Light body that is on the more medium side, smooth crisp mouthfeel, creamy carbonation with a crisp edge to it.
O: I respect this for what it is, but nowadays there are far better examples of the style. Drinks well but the flavor isn’t the greatest.

From green bottle into pilsner glass. Very pale Straw Color, almost clear at the thin part of the glass. Bright white head disappeared immediately. Smell was clean, hint of sweet... straw. Not a lot of carbonation, pretty smooth, watery. No hoppy flavor and not much spice. German pilsner, brewed in US...wouldn't buy it, but I'd happily drink it again if offered.

look: 3 | smell: 1.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 2.75

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a big billowy white head. The head fades fast over time to leave a tiny bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew quite off with a rather skunky smell overall. There is a little bit of caramel and brew, but overall the skunk dominates.

Taste – The taste begins with a rather bready taste with a light bit of caramel. As the taste advances some lighter grassy and corny tastes come to the tongue. At the very end a little bit of a hay, skunk, and grain taste meets the tongue, leaving one with a rather crisp and slightly grainy but just slightly odd flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thin with a carbonation that is rather high. For the lighter flavors and lager characteristics of the brew the feel is rather appropriate, making it an overall very easy drinking brew.

Overall- Ahh. Nothing too exceptional. It would likely be much better if not in a green bottle which taints the whole experience with the nose. It is easy drinking, but otherwise, ahh.

Appearance - pale straw color with white head

Smell - sweet corn, toasted grain, bit of skunk

Taste - toasted grain, wheat, corn, pale malt

Mouthfeel - lighter end of medium bodied, medium carbonation, slight corny sweetness upfront, decent hoppiness in the back end

Overall - for the style, not what you would call amazing, but for the price, somethign to drink when I just want a "cold one"

Price Point - $3.99/ 4 pack 16 oz cans

In the sea of USA adjunct lagers, this is a decent alternative when you want more of an authentic pilsner at the same price.

Yes, the 16 oz cans sold in the USA are brewed in the USA, but with no adjuncts, no corn aroma or taste. You can smell and taste the hops. Much better than the corn-based domestics but at the same price point.

Cheers

I always bought this beer in 500 ml cans from my local supermarket in Germany. This brew unfortunately changed trough the years. This beer has a bitter, dry and hoppy aftertaste. Its very skunky but also drinkable. An average german pilsener.

I haven't had this for some years. This lager met my expectations but these were low

Overall: An adequate, mildly bitter pils.

A: Clear golden straw color, 1 inch white head, little bit of lacing

S: Slight maltiness, little bit of hops in there but a large amount of the skunkiness you get from the yeast

T: That skunkinees is right up front, followed by a little bit of hop bitterness, then a finish of sweetness from the malts.

M: Light, good amount of carbonation

O: Not a bad beer for the price. I bought this while at the beach in a 12 pack as I wanted some craft beer but wanted to be a little friendlier on the wallet, so I got a six pack of a local IPA and this was the cheapest 12 pack of cans of anything other than macro lagers. Good tasting and just right for the beach.

I was in Germany recently and drank this beer on tap quite often. I can't believe it is rated as poor. I thought it was very good and refreshing. Maybe in Germany the draft is better.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, there is no "best by" date that I can find.

APPEARANCE: pours a clear, light yellow color with less than one finger white head that dissipated quickly until just a ring of small bubbles remained around the glass, medium carbonation, almost no lacing present.

SMELL: the nose is very faint, sweet malt, skunky, some grass and bread.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet malt, then some skunk and bread, the hop profile is too mild for my liking and just falls a little flat.

PALATE: medium body and carbonation, a little watery.

OVERALL: this is a drinkable beer, it's inoffensive but there are much better beers in this style to be had, I would not buy this again, the price was right at $10.99 for a 12 pack.

Interestingly enough, bought a 6-pack after watching the episode of Kenny vs. Spenny: Who Can Drink More Beer, and this was their beer of choice. Those crazy Canadians!
It's definitely not very filling so you could down a 6-pack or more pretty easily. It's carbonated, skunky, and sweet, much like a Heineken, but for a couple bucks less and with some fancy silver lining on the neck. So, as a fan of skunky beers, I, my nose, and my taste buds approve. Only thing is, this stuff isn't actually imported from Germany but now brewed at AB in StL? Another green-bottle beer bites the dust. Prost.

What a disappointment now that it is being brewed in St. Louis. I tried a six pack and it tasted flat. I thought I got a bad batch, until I tried another six pack. Same thing - flat and limp taste. Not like the German version. Way to screw up a good beer Budweiser.

330ml bottle carried here from Germany in a friend's suitcase. Date on the label is 10.2015 L077514T. Served in a pint glass.

Pours crystal clear golden/yellow, small head, lots of carbonation. Smells bad. Skunky. Piss.

Taste is not as bad as the aroma (thank God). A little malt liquory sweetness, lots of lager. Fairly bland. A little grassy.

Mouthfeel is light, dry, and overcarbonated. Overall, I'm never buying a Beck's. Ever.

Used to be my default go-to German lager, since it is widely available here. Within the past year I noted it is now produced in the USA (probably by Budweiser) vs. Imported from Germany and the taste has suffered considerably. I lived in China years ago and the Beck's produced there was better than the German imports, so it can be done outside Germany.

L: I would give this a 1-2 on the SRM chart. A very pale straw-like color, not unattractive in appearance. It is crystal clear with a light yellow tint similar to what a a glass of spring water with a drop of yellow food coloring in it might look like. It's pretty in its own way. A tooth white foamy head that pours to an inch and is gone in about a minute.

S: There is an initial skunky/sulfury smell which is actually kind of allowable for the type - according to the experts. After that I would say a metallic presence is definitely noticeable. There is a mild breadiness and some very light tangerine and plum aromas - very light IMO. There is also a mild smell that reminds me of sweat on a woman's forearm - always pleasant memories associated with that. :)

T: There is a definite hopiness like thew tartness of a lime or grapefruit along with a darker toastiness and some mild coniferous under-notes - like cedar. The style guidelines say "crisp & bitter", I would say that is accurate here and not unpleasant. Although here are metallic aromas there are no metallic flavors.

F: It has a medium light body with some carbonation, but nothing up front.

O: Times change. I can remember when my parents had parties and when somebody showed up with Beck's they had brought "the good stuff". I still like Beck's but after all the micro brew gems I had for years at home and at great beer bars - like Eli Cannon's Tap Room in Middletown, Connecticut; I realize Beck's has a lot of competition. Is is better than ur standard back yard BBQ fare? Yes. That said it brings back great memories of my parents parties and those at relatives' and family friends' houses when I was a kid. Would it be my first choice, no. If someone asked me for something tasting kinda like your standard cheap beer that's a little better this would be one. Cheers.
