When my roommate moved out recently, there was a lone Beck's Oktoberfest in the fridge, and he said I could have it. I had been wanting to try it, as I have had both the regular Beck's and Beck's Dark.
A - Pours a deep copper/amber color. Head is smallish and tan with minimal retention. Not many bubbles present, which suggests low carbonation.
S - Not a strong-smelling beer, but I got whiffs of caramel, roasted malts, and a little bit of pine.
T - Tastes of biscuits, caramel, and citrus. The citrus hop flavors dominate mid-palate and give way to a slightly sweet caramel finish.
M - Rather thin in this department, mostly due to lack of carbonation. Could use a little more effervescence.
D - This beer's strong suit. A good choice for a session Oktoberfest, perhaps due in part to the beer's inoffensive character. Goes well with a wide variety of foods.
Verdict: If you want a versatile, easy-drinking introduction to this style, Beck's Oktoberfest isn't a bad selection. If you want an Okto with character, you should probably look elsewhere.
