Appearance: Clear deep golden in color, with a modest white head, which soon fades to a scattering of foam on the surface. Thin, scattered fine-beaded lacing coats the glass walls. The carbonation is modest and slow-rising.

Aroma: Classic Pilsener aroma, although a bit understated, cracker and biscuit malt and noble hops, and a mineral aroma to the water.

Taste: Opens with a bit of biscuit malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness, assuaged by modest noble hops. As the taste progresses, the hops dominate, but only slightly. Finishes with a biscuit malt note, and a mild herbal hop presence.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, not unpleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Neither good, nor terrible, about what could be expected of a "German" beer brewed in America. The great German brewers of yore must be spinning in their graves.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve fluid ounce brown glass bottle, sealed with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that rapidly dissipated, leaving only a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bready malts are present in the nose along with notes of tangerines.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste is slightly sweet and has flavors of bready malts and tangerines.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The use of Sapphire hops makes this beer slightly more interesting than your average pilsener. It's rather easy to drink.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some medium yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to a mottled thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin to medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of biscuit malts with hints of light floral hops and just a hint of sweet banana.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of grainy biscuit malts with light flavors of floral hops. Light amounts bitterness in the finish which fades quickly but overall this beer is a little too sweet.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slick.

O: Sounded like a good concept but it does not deliver on it - I was hoping for a showcase of the Saphir hops but it turned out to just be a slightly sweet Euro Lager. Glad that I had the opportunity to give it a shot but I will not be getting this one again.

Bottle poured into a Sam Adams glass

Deep rich golden yellow , two finger foam cap settles into a fine layer with lacings on the side of the glass.

Grassy, straw , winey aroma.

Carbonated fizz settles down to a beery type taste. Light to medium light mouthfeel. Taste of alcohol is strong on the tongue. No bitter aftertaste

A "friend" recommended this beer to me. The appearance was great, the taste was a let down. a step above an adjunct beer for me. He either doesn't know the type of beers I like or I need to find a new friend.

FIRST! Look at the label. "PRODUCT OF USA". And to make it even worse, "ST LOUIS ,MO". It doesn't take to much to figure this one out.

I am disappointed since my go to beer guy recommended that I try it. One bottle out of the 12pk and I am not pleased. I can buy Old Milwaukee a lot cheaper. Not to say that it tasted like OM, but it didn't taste like Beck's either. Light out of the bottle, lots of ziz on the tongue. Watery in the middle. If Sapphire hops are supposed to taste this way, I guess I'll go along with that. Just a lot of something missing here. The black bottle doesn't really make up for it though. Just which bid at the recycle do you put black empties?
