Really? A C+ Bros?

A pretty safe beer, but try it if you want to drink something that tastes kind of like a Bud Lite but want to keep your hipster cred.

Pours palest of yellows with a foamy white head and surprisingly little visible carbonation. Smells slightly musky with cooked veggies and very slight citrus.

Flavor is weak, a touch of lemon zest with just a hint of hop to give a baby bite to the flavor of this beer. More flavor than light beers that are glorified mineral water, but not too much to think about here either. Carbonated throughout, light and kind of refreshing, although some flavor and boldness could do a little good here. (648 characters)

Puts other macro brews to shame. Yes, it's an AAL. But there's some hop bite in there and a soft almost-malty finish. At this price point, it's without peer. (157 characters)

Do you see how I rated this beer? 3.3 on the Richter Scale. I mean, good grief, give this beer a break. In 1964 when I first drank this "mother's milk" I would have rated it 3.3. It hasn't changed, thank goodness. This is the type of beer that my grandpa and dad drank when coming in from lawn mowing. Push mower I might add. Sheeesh, let's get with the program my friends and honor the name cherished by millions of teenagers in the middle 60's. From the Land of Sky Blue Waters, and always will be. (500 characters)

Holy nasty skunk batman.

This is some seriously bad beer. It's a cold "fresh" Hamm's. And it is really, really, really bad.

We all should be careful with our reviews and not set out to bash any specific beer. I must say, however, that this beer is in serious need of bashing. I did not enjoy the smell (my wife said it smelled like "skunky butt") or the taste. The head looked like marshmallow creme and the color was golden. It went down easy, but due to the flavor, I couldn't drink more than one can.

If you check my reviews you will note that I do not generally give such low scores, but in this case I'm going as low as possible to save my fellow advocates the pain. (680 characters)

A: Drank from the can but have seen one poured. Very light, light color with no head. Lots of carbonation.

S: Nothing, maybe some malt character.

T: Very carbonated. Smooth and decent taste compared to others in this category. No real real flavor is pronounced but decent.

This is a decent beer for this category. I've had several way worse. I am a craft beer drinker so this is never a beer I purchase but have had several times. I have friends that do drink the BMC and others and I'm never one to turn down a free drink. This is one that I'm not terrified to drink. (572 characters)

My favorite cheap beer. No one will touch it in your fridge, and I personally prefer it to PBR. Scored this for 11.99/30pk and miss the days when it was 6.99/24pk!!!

Seriously cheap beer, but not bad at all if you are in the proper mindset for slumming. Keep in mind that your lady friend will give you strange looks for obtaining and drinking this beer, but do not be deterred. You have made a value-based decision and you are in for a full 30pk/24pk/6pk of cheap, alcohol-laced enjoyment. Rather than tell you about the corn and quickly disappearing head, let's focus on the fact that I would take a frosty Hamm's over a MGD any day of the week (even though Miller contract brews this stuff!)

Excellent beer if you are watching Pawn Stars or Porn Stars, but not so good if you are trying improve your social standing. On the plus side, you can recycle all those cans and get drunk in the process. Way to save the earth and support a union-made product, you patriot! Just don't be the dick that leaves the empties all over your college quad, sorority house, rust-belt hometown, or loading dock of your soon-to-be-former place of employment. Folks will talk about your piggish addiction to Hamm's and wonder why you are living in the slop.

I'm pretty sure if there was a purgatory for yeast, this would be it. Not heaven, not hell, but somewhere vaguely in-between. (1,369 characters)

Really horrible. I drank this one out of a 12 oz. can purchased from Allied Liquors #3, one of my favorite cheap beer/malt spots here in indianapolis. They sell singles of all kinds of low-end shit, with a rotating selection in iced-down coolers. Nice.

I don't blame them for the fact that this shit tastes like malta india with a jigger of heinz white vinegar in it.

no, it wasn't that bad, but the first sip was a real shock. I was speeding down 38th street towards home as the astringent shock hit my tongue and sent me reeling. further sips revealed that yes, Hamm's is horrible, a morbid mockery of a brew. And i love cheap beer!

Do yourself a favor and buy a schlitz or pbr instead.. (700 characters)

Wow, what a beer. It brings back memories. I can remember my dad stopping at the local store and picking up a case of it. I can remember my parents and their friends playing cards and drinking this beer.
I found this little gem in the Batesville Liquior Store in Batesville, IN. it is not bad for a macrobrew. It is also very cheap! It has a decent mouthfeel and a crisp finish. You can taste the corn but that is not a bad thing in hoosierland! (447 characters)

Served on tap in a pint at the Blue Door Pub. I'm not going to lie, my friends helped me with this review and it was a little bit of a joke but I think we were honest for the most part. Reviewed from some pretty entertaining notes.

A- Yellow snow color.

S- "Ham," beer, water and feet hit the nose right off the bat.

T- Musty barley with some bread present.

M- "Water"

O- "It is What It Is."

Cheers. (408 characters)

Poured from the can into a pint glass.

A - Typical yellow-amber and clear, about two fingers of white head. Medium-low lacing.

S - Smells much like you'd expect from it. Some earthiness, grassiness, hops, and barley. Nothing crazy.

T - Actually better than I would expect for $17 out the door for a 30-pack. All the general tastes of an American adjunct, but pretty well put-together. Just seems a little less offensive than others and doesn't have that icy chewiness I might associate with Busch Light, for example.

M - Maybe because it's the regular rather than the light, it seems relatively smooth. I've had worse aftertastes.

O - I just may have found a new go-to cheap beer for buying en masse. (705 characters)

Haven't seen this stuff since I was a kid. All of a sudden there it is at my local store for $10.80 a case. At that price, seriously, why not? I'll just break it out on poker night and even if it's absolutely dreadful, it'll still get finished off. I'll grab this 12'er of Lagunitas IPA for the 'house', just in case...

Served in a pint glass.

Pours a very pale golden with a thick white head that disappears quickly and leaves some delicate lacing. Looks okay. The lacing is actually pretty elegant looking.

Aroma is corn, a little grain, some grassiness. Typical for the style, nothing too terribly off-putting, but not the greatest smell either. Probably better left in the can.

Taste is very simple and straightforward, starts slightly sweet then fades into a swift corn/grain finish. Over and done like that (snaps fingers). Nothing off or bad tasting, but nothing stands out either. Super basic American lager.

Mouthfeel is also average for the style. Thin and light bodied, carbonation is average. Not too watery. Very drinkable. I could see losing count of how many of these I've had.

Overall this is just a slightly above average adjunct lager. I've had a few better, but I've had many worse. The aroma isn't the greatest, but I just had another one from the can and it was a non-issue. Hamm's is a perfectly cromulent session beer and actually an amazing value. I mean, $0.45/can for an actual drinkable beer? My overall rating takes this into consideration.

Update 9/7/13... Okay, fine. Hamm's has been our House Cheepniss all summer long. Probably on our 12th or 13th case at this point, and it's always in the fridge now for handing out by the armload to a bunch of guests, for keeping the whistle whetted in between precious glasses of hi-dolla craft, for pouring on the flareups when grilling burgers and for soaking the grilled brats until serving time, basically for all general "hey, it's beer" drinking purposes. One time I tried 'dry hopping' a can I was drinking with some Cascade pellet. Yeah, don't do that. Take it for what it is and it won't disappoint (much). Expect anything more and you're dumb. (2,132 characters)

Never even heard about hamm's til I went to a really cheap bar by my house with one of my friends...he told me I had to get it

The bar was sooo cheap that u could get a pint of hamm's for $.99, a 36 oz mug for $2.75, or a pitcher for $4.00, I can't pass that up.

A - It looks a little darker to me than most American Lagers, extra points for that, typical white head that disappears quick

S - It smells like a regular American Lager, not that strong, but there. somewhat sweet, but nothing really popping out.

T - It tastes different for the style, real different, I swear I can almost tastes a hint of ham, or cheese, cuz its brewed in wisconsin...but seriously, a very good and distinctive taste that sets it apart from the rest.

M - Real clean and smooth going down, not bad at all, normal on the carbonation

O - Just a real good and cheap beer, i highly recommend it, I just don't know where u would find this, I haven't heard of this until a few weeks ago....u will probably never find something that tastes like this. (1,029 characters)

This beer is one of those beers that swill, but it's cool to drink it. It is a watery lager with unsetteling sweetness, but like Natty, the Beast and PBR, it is always cheap, and alway chic. This is swill. But I love it. Good with bluegill and making brats. (257 characters)

bought a twelve pack for 6.49 a great buy
A: Looks like your average macro lager perhaps a bit more golden like a pilsner
S: little bit chemical and metallic but you can also smell the corn mainly but also a little hint of barley
T: strong corn taste up front with a drying bitterness you don't expect from macro lagers pretty good, but at the end you get a nice hint of the barley like you would find in euro pale lager
M: fizzy light body what you would expect from lager like this
D: compared to the other macros i would say this kicks there ass the taste is just really there reminds me of the beer my dad used to drink (624 characters)

A: Well, okay. I have to admit, I'm drinking this out of a can. Seriously, who pours Hamm's into a glass? Not me! Up the punx! ;) But it's your typical American lager. That's what it looks like. Nothing special.

S: This beer has a kind of sweet smell to it. Pleasant, for sure. Not exceptional, but makes it that much more exciting to drink!

T: One of the better cheap-ass domestic beers out there, I think. A little bit of bitter citrus and a sweet, bready finish. I could throw these back all night if I wanted to.

M: Feels "cheap." Really "fluffy."

D: Once again, I could drink Hamm's all night. It's not the best beer in the world, but for what it is - a cheap American lager - it's definitely pretty good. It doesn't taste as much like hair as Pabst. It's not as watery as Olympia. It's just a decent, drinkable beer. (826 characters)

Reviewing this for what it is, an inexpensive lawnmower beer. If you start with the macro brew idea firmly implanted you won't be disappointed. Drinkability is excellent because you won't notice the first 2 ,overall a better choice to me than Miller Lite or Bud for a softball game or the weekend fishing trip. (310 characters)

An elderly friend of mine gave me one of these in a gesture of kindness. I took one sip and poured the rest down his kitchen sink when he wasn't looking. Maybe it was skunky, but damn I couldn't stomach it. (210 characters)

9.99 a case, I had to try it. You know what, its not bad - much better than any popular BMC brand. Light yellow color, smelled better than your typical macro, but taste fantastic. I wish this was available in bottles....looks like its going to be a Hamms summer! (262 characters)

A-An actual bright yellow adjunct beer color. 1/4 inch head with hard pour. Dissipates relatively slow for Lager but still quickly, with no lacing.

S-Smells like cheap beer out of a metal can. Heavy on the metal smell.

T- Tastes like it smells, cheap metal

M- American carbonated lager

O- Well its 9.99 where I live and you really get what you pay for, .33 apiece beer. Looks good for what is, in a glass, but if you make it past 4 your a champ for having put that much crap in your mouth. (493 characters)

Not sure who brews Hamm's any more. The last time I had any was about 36 years ago at the Oly brewery tour. But one of our local stores had a 30-case for $17, so I thought it was time to sock some away for casual summer sipping. Then I broke out one and stuck it in the freezer for a half hour, and then poured it into a pint glass (I don't like the aluminum smell drinking from a can). The smell wasn't like a brewery, but just a pleasant non-specific fragrance. The head starts off OK, and drops off to near nothing after a couple of minutes. The color is standard for American beer. The taste is pretty much bitter malt with a slightly sweet touch, and the flavor fades away pleasantly. I think that if you keep this beer cool, you could continue drinking cans of it all day. Half a can provides a pleasant buzz, and this beer will make a sunny day very enjoyable. (867 characters)

It is okay and the flavor is alright. There's too many lagers on the shelves though. I don't even think of it as a style, just another boring American beer. As far as I read a few months ago whoever owns this (Miller?) owns a lot of brands and they're trying to destroy these small beers which don't make them a ton of money by not advertising them. That's why I buy it. Not horrible. Cheap $6-$7.50 a 12pk. usually. For some weird reason it's always next to and paired with Pabst and Rainier. That's how I make my decision sometimes. Rainier and Pabst usually keep the same price but sometimes they will be $2 higher than normal and sometimes this will be the high priced beer of the 3. I've seen it for $9.50 before when it's usually about $6 or $7 a 12.

Good overall. Usual junk macro taste. It is cheap beer and has some history which I respect. Overall better and more flavorful than the other 2 beers mentioned but not as great as another cheapie, High Life.

1.5 appearance, smell 2.0, taste 2.5, mouthfeel 1.5, drinkability 3. It's not a great taste so trying to drink a more than a few would not be that fun. It's watery beer. You can drink them but it's pretty boring.

*Wal Mart here sells 30's of these babys for $16. Just thought others might like to compare. It's all they sell. Winco (the local supermarket chain here) sells the 12's. (1,352 characters)

From a 30pk case of cans, poured into a lager mug. Never really noticed until this last can of the case, this beer has a very dull gold color, drab.

Nice thick head, last for a bit. Heavy beer aroma, dissapated with the foam, slightly, slightly sweet.

Nice unassuming flavor, wheaty, small, but distinguishable taste of hops. Malty on the back of the tongue with a dry malt aftertaste. I could chug this down quite quickly. Easy to drink even as it warms.

Hamms the beer refreshing, great with a shot of brandy, pizza, steak, or any American fare. Have a beer, have a Hamms. (581 characters)

Saw this one on tap at a local watering hole, the kind that local factory guys come to after a good days work, so I had to try it; besides, 3 dollars for a mini pitcher how can you go wrong?

I was expecting something between bud light and water, and no surprise, thats what I got. But what I was surprised at was how comfortable this beer was to drink. It wasn't over carbonated like most light lagers, and it didn't have the slight bitter - however faint - to it of most of the macros.

No, this one is straw pale and a ridiculously easy drink, exactly what I want when I want something refreshing and light; which is what you get. (633 characters)

(I'm rating this with the style and price in mind, so the high rating is relative)

This is on par with PBR as the best AAL I've ever had. Super cheap and highly drinkable, this is a great beer to add some diversity to the fridge without spending too much. A really solid brew overall. Beats Budweiser, MGD and Coors any day. (325 characters)
