This approachable 4.6% ABV craft beer is an interpretation of an American Pale Ale (APA) with its assertive hopping, but also delivering notes of a German Altbier with the copper colour, and distinctive caramelised maltiness. Elements of an English Bitter are also introduced largely from the use of darker specialty malts.

The term ‘Galactic’ in the name derives from the use of Galaxy hops, which along with Nelson Sauvin hops drive the nose and bitterness profile. The end result is the extra body that balances out the firm hopping regime, supported by pungent aromas of passionfruit, citrus and pine resin, that are prominent throughout.

Poured from tap into a conical schooner (it's a 425ml vessel for all you non-Australian folks).

A: This has a nice cloudy Amber body with an off-white thin lace on top. As appealing as most other Pale Ales out there.

S: Prominent notes of melon and stonefruit form a bold hop front. Background malts are hardly detectable.

T: Interesting mix of melon/stonefruit/citrus hops, there's malt in there somewhere but the hops are the star attraction. Faint yeast also makes an appearance.

M: Mid to light body, medium carbonation.

D: An easy inoffensive brew. Refreshing combination of flavours with the stonefruit/citrus which makes it go down easy. Highly recommended based on its intriguing taste.

Food match: a decent fruit salad of a brew that would go well with fruit salad. Also would suit South East Asian cuisine such as Thai or Vietnamese.

Had on-tap at Harts Pub. I'd been meaning to try something from these guys for a while, and I'm pleased I got around to it last weekend.

Pours quite light in the body, clear and golden, with a decent and rather frothy white head that stays pretty solid in the glass, and provides ringed lacing as it goes down. It looks quite well-made with a hint of sophistication. I like it.

Nose is bright with sweet fruit, but a crispness that restrains it someone. I get fresh mango along with sharper pine characters and a clean, faintly grainy hop presence to give it some body. It's light overall, but very pleasant.

Taste is clean, crisp, bright and well-crafted. Clean bitterness on the back, smoothing malt through the centre, with a slightly grassy aftertaste. Again, it's very light (which is slightly more detrimental on the palate), but it's quite clean and refreshing.

Feel is very light and crisp.

Overall, this is a nice package, and I'd happily drink this frequently. It's hard to get an Aussie pale ale to stand out with me, but this does all the right things. It has lots of flavour, but balances this with a crisp, light drinkability. I look forward to trying Dennis's other beers.
