Beer #5 8/9/13
This IPA looks more like a double, a murky orange-brown color and heavy. A whitish head rises to a decent height, displaying retention and lacing pretty well.
The nose is interesting, if not downright fascinating. It's got all the nutty, earthy, creamy character of a good cheese. If I had to pinpoint one note, it would actually be cheese, at least first off, and it's not a bad thing.
The flavor is big, with lots of hops. Pine with a raw and resinous tone, even a little woody, with lots of floral, pithy and citrus notes make for a strong bitterness, but malts are well-played, bready and malty and strong enough to balance without taking off from the edge the hops give it.
This beer has a full body too, robust but not overwhlemingly thick or filling. It's got a big smoothness to it without neglecting crispness.
This beer makes me very interested in seing more from this tiny brewery.
