Poured into a goblet, La Chouffe is somewhat cloudy and pale-yellow in color. The head, at about two-fingers thick, is typically fine like many Belgians.
The aroma is sweet and spicy. Hints of citrus and nutmeg are detectable. When bringing the aroma into the mouth, the same characteristics apply with the addition of an alcohol sensation.
At first, the beer is rather spicy. Coriander and clove dominate the senses. After a few sips, the sweetness really kicks in. The carbonation is a little less than I was expecting, though. Hops linger in the background. Mild hints of mango increase as the beer warms towards the finish.
La Chouffe proved much better than I had anticipated, given the description at the bar. I would be interested to see how this fares from a bottle.

A: Nice thick head on initial pour into a tulip glass , fine white foam with good lacing. Almost cream like in texture
S: Hint of hay, barn, champagne(?)
T: A tad malty without being too sweet, hint of peppercorn, clove, bread and only the slightest astringency from hops. Hint of apple or pear
M: Finely effervescent (like champagne) without being to gassy
Great beer, excellent price point at less than $3/bottle. Would definitely purchase again.
