Bottle: a stumpy, solid little 330mL brown bottle with an cute / sweet label. Better than your average Belgian package.
Appearance: poured into a tulip glass (perfect choice as it turns out). A hazy yet brilliant orange-yellow with plenty of fine champagne-style carbonation exploding from the base of the glass. Sporadic lacing.
Aroma: Belgian yeast aromas up front but with plenty of sweet malts and citrus hops also. Some orchard fruits also - a really pleasant aroma, one of the best from a Belgian.
Taste: an amazingly well-balanced Belgian Strong - generally the yeasts take the front foot. With La Chouffe it is metered out by a pleasant and refreshing citrus and orchard fruit sweetness. Some spices in the background. Nice!
Aftertaste: backs off somewhat, but still a massively pleasant beer. A touch more bitterness comes through.
Overall: a brilliant Belgian Strong. I have seen this at Dan Murphy's for a long time and assumed from a distance that it was a cider. I'm glad I bothered to take a closer look - one of the best balanced and most refreshing Belgian Strong Pale Ales I have had to date.

A: Nice thick head on initial pour into a tulip glass , fine white foam with good lacing. Almost cream like in texture
S: Hint of hay, barn, champagne(?)
T: A tad malty without being too sweet, hint of peppercorn, clove, bread and only the slightest astringency from hops. Hint of apple or pear
M: Finely effervescent (like champagne) without being to gassy
Great beer, excellent price point at less than $3/bottle. Would definitely purchase again.
