Another bomber for a weekend night. This one's bought from Brauhaus when I was on the way home; thought I would give this a shot as I really liked the Mc Chouffe. The N'Ice Chouffe was quite a looker when I served it in Duvel Tulip. It pours out dark black brown with a nice big creamy
frothy head which grows significantly after a smooth pour. Carbonation bubbles was also clearly visible. It smells of dark fruits with a clear alcohol backing; yeast and spices and a some malts were also detected on the nose. The taste hits you with alcohol, spices and maple sweetness upon contact with the palates and immediately after that, Dark fruits which includes raisins and plums backed with alcohol kicked in with a constant malty backing which made it quite pleasant. Initially, the taste was primary alcohol and sweetness but this is a rather different scenario as the beer warms. When the beer warms, the alcohol becomes less obvious and the malts and fruitiness are more pronounced. Before the finish, alcohol, raisins and malt sweetness can be detected pleasantly on the nose. The finish was very smooth with a slight carbonation and also leaving more fruity and malty aromas on the nose and warming in the throat and stomach. The mouthfeel was
almost a full bodied creamy goodness with good carbonation to back things up. It was very smooth drinking for a 10 ABV beer and I coudld really appreciate this one. The after taste was fruity with subtle hints of alcohol and sweet malts and spices were present too. At the same time floral and fruity aromas are actively detected on the nose and there was also a constant maple sweetness backing. The fruitines in the after taste finally fades off to a lingering taste of raisin and grapes with fruity aromas constantly on the nose. The final note after lingering for while is a slightly herbal backing to the fruitiness; very lasting and pleasant. Initially, I was thinking that this one is a bit too alcoholic but as it warms, things really changes; initially I was thinking this one deserves a 8 at most due to the overly powering alcholic start but it gets better as it warms and as you have more of it. I think I still prefer the Mc Chouffe but the N'ICE
Chouffe is still a NICE one to have and it is surely a good to great Belgian strong dark ale; a reminder is to be mindful of the ABV and the fact that it is a bomber; I am a little tipsy right now... signing off.

Color- hazy, muck and sediment filled brownish amber. Full head.
Aroma- pear, coriander, composting fruit, and hint of tin.
Taste- starts A rather syrupy sweet strong Belgian. Starts sweet with a flat carbonated entry making the making the flavors and feel seem stale, then finishes with mild yet lackluster sweet fruity and spiced notes including pear, raisin, and cheap toffee. Given the many Belgian ales on the market, this one does not stand apart from the field. Purchased at Spec's June 2014. The bottle states "best before end 2014." We're speculating that the heavy haze and suspended chunks of muck in our bottle may have been due to heat in transport.
Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted on 6/10/14.

N'Ice Chouffe - Brasserie d'Achouffe This Belgian Strong Dark Ale Winter Warmer smells like Malt Balls, Dark fruit, Jesus and baking bread... Very enticing~ Head lacing is infinite ... Pours a dynamic Mahogany, Purple/Brown with LOADS of floating Ingredients and a sandy bottom~ Mouthful is very rich, Creamy, yet light in density and not in the least sticky nor did it linger, leaves your palate very pleased and wanting more!~ Heavy Malt, Cinnamon, Orange Peel, Toast, Citrus, Grape/Plum, Brown Sugar, Raisin, a touch Peppery, Thyme and Curaçao Peel, Dark Candy, light Cherry, a bit of banana, just a bit of a woody taste and very much Berry~ Delicious refreshing and warms the soul! I just took another pic of the head lacing... It's literally by FAR the best I've ever seen! Thick and coats almost the whole glass~ Very pleased with this interesting, unique and complex authentic product of Belgium~ Covered the 10%ABV very well on my 2010 edition~ Hope I can find this again~ Overall 9.7
