11.2oz bottle poured into a tulip. Date on the neck says 5/31/13 (best by?).
A: A semi-careful pour resulted in a large head...at least three fingers. Big porous bubbles around the edge of the glass and a nice tight pillow on top. Color of the head is slightly off-white and the body is honey gold. There are floaties in there...not sure if that is typical or if I just didn’t let this rest long enough after purchasing it today.
S: A strong pilsner aroma jumps out at you...the Saaz hops at work. Floral and purfumy. But I also get some sweet tropical fruit, citrus and breadiness in there as well. What a great complex nose!
T: Pronounced alcohol bite quickly reminded me that this is 9%. Wouldn’t guess it from the nose. Not sure how old this bottle is, but I feel like a lot of the flavoring hop profile has faded. There is solid dose of pepper, some grain and light fruit...mostly pear.
M: The alcohol was not particularly well hidden in this bottle. It’s sort of a sipper at this point which is weird because it’s uncommon for me to take it easy with a beer with this hop profile. Body is medium-to-full.
O: I’m going to seek out a fresher bottle. I had this beer a couple of years ago and it was an entirely different experience. That said, this was still one of the best smelling beers I’ve encountered in awhile.
