750 mL bottle picked up at the LCBO; best before Oct. 2016. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a cloudy golden-yellow colour, highly effervescent, and topped with a generous head nearly two fingers thick. It is fluffy and frothy, coating the glass with gobs of lace as it slowly recedes into a more manageable cap. This is a positively gorgeous beer. The aroma is zesty and hoppy, as this style should be - lots of lemon and grapefruit citrus; quite grassy and herbal with a hint of ripe pear. Yeasty notes of pepper and clove also come through. This brew is shaping up very well, indeed.

An exquisite ale. Notes of pale malt and candi sugar sweetness pale in comparison to the onslaught of hops and yeasty, Belgian beer goodness. Sweet apple, apricot and ripe pear are detectable, in addition to lemony citrus, pine and some pithy notes. It becomes increasingly herbal and spicy toward the finish, with notes of lemongrass, clove and pepper (as well as some alcohol) heating things up nicely at the finish. The beer itself is on the heftier side of medium-bodied, with zippy carbonation that prickles the palate, providing an enjoyably crisp mouthfeel. As drinkable as this beer is, a brew this amazing deserves to be shared with as many friends as you can gather.

Final Grade: 4.6, a flawless A+. Houblon Chouffe is a positively fantastic Belgian IPA that I will definitely purchase again. I have had several Belgian-brewed BIPAs over the past month or so, and this one is definitely my favourite of the bunch. Delightfully rich and hoppy, yet shockingly quaffable - a must-try, and that is not a description that I bandy about lightly.
