16 ounce can, no dating that I noticed on it. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a dimpled mug, the beer pours a reddish/copper color with about an inch light tan head that stuck around a while. Good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bready malt, toffee, nuts and earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some caramel. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. Easy enough to drink. Thought this was a good overall dunkel, definitely worth trying if you get the chance!

Once again, the generous trader that is @jkblr has CAN through yet aCAN for The CANQuest ™! I always get excited when one of his packages arrives & this time was no different (except that I was & am overwhelmed with work at the Post Office). I CAN’t wait to taste this one!

From the CAN: “Boldly Traditional”; “Your Glassware[:] Stein”; “The Finest Ingredients”.

CANpared with SO many, this was a wee, tiny 12-fl oz CAN, so I felt like Gulliver as I Crack!ed open its vent. Pauvre petite CAN! I think in so CANy different CANguages that it CAN be difficult to keep up. I CANtinued with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting … Stein! Yay for following directions. The CANtents were equally CANtented & responded by erupting foamy, fizzy, tawny/light-tan head with very good retention. Color was Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was quite malty, an interesting CANbination of breadiness & nuttiness, like dark nut bread. Mmm! Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, about on-par for a Lager of any stripe. The taste was like liquefied brown nut bread! Mmm. I got this back in the Spring/Summer, but it could not (CANnot) have been more appropriate for a cold Winter’s day! It was just the sort of thing to take off some of the chill & inspire me to at least think of baking something in the oven. It had a brilliant brown breadiness like B&M CANned Brown Bread, but tempered by a pleasant nuttiness, like almonds and/or walnuts. Mmm. There was also a light sweetness (?) of anise/treacle which only enCANced its Wintery warming taste. Finish was semi-sweet, bordering on semi-dry. The brewery identifies it as “Year-‘round”, but I found it perfect for Winter. YMMV.

12oz can stamped 01/21/20 poured into becher glass at just above fridge temp 5.4% ABV. The beer mostly bright medium to light brown with chestnut highlights and khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and a few bubbles. The aroma is rich and malty with bits of cocoa and earthy, nutty hops. The taste follows with nutty, earthy tastes layered on cocoa with a slightly tangy, slightly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, excellent. Perfectly clean, no off flavors or feel. The store signs stated this was the first ever canning of this beer, so I am assuming the January date was a canned on date not a best before.

At the brewery and Feb 2023 single can from Party Town
Blue Stallion never disappoints when it comes to the traditional styles.

From the growler via Deps in NKY in a snifter. This solid
dunkel pours a ruby tinged brown color with a decent head
of off white foam that settles to a thin ring and subtle wafting
layer. Nose of toasted caramel and toffee notes with subtle
grain and faint herbal hops. Flavors follow the nose nicely with
toasted dark breaded malt and caramel malts with subtle
herbal hops and light grain notes amongst lager elements
with faint herbal hops. Nice mouth feel; medium body, smooth,
medium light carbonation that is near perfect for the style, and
a sweet finish.

Overall, a SOLID brew that pairs well with food
which is how I had it a ways back, with a Flip Daddy's
burger. Nice.

Cheers

Had this beer for the first time this evening. Draft served in a 64 oz. pitcher then poured into 16 oz. plastic beer cup. Esthetically not an ideal setting, but hey it’s a mid July evening at the Biergarten at the Louisville Ky German American club. We really enjoyed this version of the style. We had a pitcher of Warsteiner’s version a bit later and the Blue Stallion was clearly the better bear. It’s a dark woody brown color with an ample but jot long lingering creamy white head. The smell is toasty malts and yeast. We really enjoyed the flavor from start to finish. Rich toasty malts, coffee, and even some dark chocolate notes. Medium body and very easy to drink. It was the hit of the evening along with the line polka band.

(First review). Thin head that dissipated quickly and the dark amber color was pleasing to the eye. Aromas of toasted caramel malts and a hint of alcohol. Has a nice roasty, caramel malt sweetness upfront with hints of subtle spice notesand a slight touch of hops. Has a crisp, yet smooth, medium mouth feel. Easy to drink beer, the way this type of beer ought to be. Worth a try if you’re in Lexington.

I like Dunkels and this is one of my favorites. I've had it frequently on tap from local establishments and wish that it was readily available in cans from local stores. For this style, it has fairly strong coffee notes in the roasted malt. Maybe it leans towards porter/stout territory, which is why I like it so much.
