I have a different oddball label from the one shown above. Some murky leaf green mystery with the 't Smisje name followed by a big plus sign that could be mistaken for a religious symbol with the word "plus" in italics crudely placed across it followed by "India Pale Ale" all in different styles and fonts. Very weird kinda ancient look about it.
A - Golden beige with fluffy, creamy off white head and decent lace.
S - Bouquet of fruit with grapefruit and lemon rind, almond, belgian yeasty funk and alcohol.
T - Rich and complex. Again, I get almond, grapefruit and lemon, some brown sugar up front with lots of rich hoppy bitterness coming on at the end to balance the sweet, bready malt and alcohol.
M - Full and rich. Delicious and dangerously drinkable for a 10 percenter.
If you want to try a Belgian and are a hop fan, start here. The bottom yeast is so tasty/fresh after a year or so in the cellar. I suggest giving the bottle a swirl before pouring the last ounce so you get a nice cloudy drink with everything nature intended.

11.2 ox was poured into an Dogfish rounded pint glass.
Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a hazy copper color with some clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.
Smell: Tangerine, grapefruit, orange, floral, caramel, booze, and toasted malts.
Taste: The aromas come through and then there is some earthy aftertaste with mild bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Somewhat smooth, burning alcohol, medium bodied, a little chewy, and medium carbonation.
Overall: Took a shot at this beer and it was alright. Not sure how old it is, but would like yo try this fresh if and when that is possible.

Poured at a good temperature with a smallish, off-white, foamy head that soon settled and no lace. Color is a cloudy brown amber and not that appealing. Aroma is first yeast, then grain, hop, malt, musty. Flavor is sweet on top then carbonic tang and hop/yeast bitter. Body & carbonation ok. Finish is like flavor, longish, and boozy. Not one of my favs. Won't finish it.

Big thanks to a favorite trader, seeswo, for another treat.
Different label, feat. a large outline of a cross under 't Smisje.
Very cloudy dark amber with a killer two fingers of white foam that kicks back to a nice cap pretty quickly.
Very strong aroma fronted by citrus and tart and tangy yeast, even a bit of funkitude, with sweet grain and floral underneath. Cue saliva glands to activate.
Good gosh amighty what a strong flavor, a regular bomb on the palate of belgiany IPA goodness. Lotta sweet at the start, kind of over some spicy alcohol, but this is joined rapidly by a stupendous shot of citrus and funk, caramel, pine as it goes along, finally getting really piney and full of bitter, complex tart, and lingering caramel. Complex? Ummm, ya might say that this is fucking complexity squared. So many underflavors (esters? phenols? tannins? malty goodness?) that it is silly to try and catologue them. Magnificent.
Medium carb., maybe a bit too carb.'ed if I nitpick, very viscous, lots of cling, but it stays clean, heavenly finish that has plenty alcohol spice, no fusel.
Just a marvelous beer. If you like this style you will freakin love this, get it if you see it.

This brew poured out with a huge frothy head on top no matter how slow you pour it you'll need to wait a little for it to settle. The color of the beer is a hazy yellowish gold. The smell of the beer is a bit more earthy than I expected from an IPA but since it's not an American one I'm not surprised. The taste of this brew is bitter with some Belgian yeast in there giving it a light bread like flavor to it. The mouthfeel is a bubbly, drinkable but very carbonated. Overall this brew is pretty good though.

Enjoyed this 11.2 oz stubby brown bottle out of a large snifter glass.
A: Pours a very hazy dirty blonde-brown with a thick, frothy, 2-finger, white head that quickly dissipates into a thick solid lace.
S: Strong hoppy aroma with a great malt backbone, with hints of citrus fruits and spices.
T: Very bitter hoppy ipa with a good malt background. Spicy lemony finish.
M: Very boozy and strong. Medium body and medium carbonation
O: Very high-quality Belgian IPA. A little on the malty side for me, but very drinkable and enjoyable. This is a sipper @ 10% abv.

Pours a two finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving no lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Murky amber color with a ton of yeast left in bottle. Nose is yeasty and flavor is caramel and yeast. High ABV is hidden. Some bitterness in aftertaste. Pricey at $5.95 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.
