Pours a solid brown with the faintest amber in there. IT has a small offwhite head that doesnt stay too long. Otherwise this beer looks nice based on color and carbonation. Smells of overripe to dried fruits, with faint roast and brown sugar in there as well. The flavors in this beer are there, but just not pronounced enought as in some other dubbels. Yet there is a nice satisfying feeling while drinking the beer. Slight caramel, honey, brown sugar and dark, solid malt, and what i'd assume was dates enter the palate with glee. My only problem was that i thought that the mouthfeel was too abrubt and the flavors dissapeared to fast. The 9% is not apparent in the least. The warmer thsi beet gets the more interesting as the flavor profile expands well. Definately give this one a shot people.

Has a fruity spicy nose with traces of caramel. It pours hazy brown with chunks under a 3” white foam cap. Delicious, very fine, soft carbonation, first you are aware of soft foamy fruit and then some alcohol comes in, some balancing bitterness and then a lingering soft bitterness balanced by long, large pitted fruits and a light citrus. Despite the chunks, not a bad beer.

Poured into a snifter.
A: Fig colored, opaque. An off-white, one-finger head that fades to foam. A thick, full head and lacing.
S: Honey and dates, like the label says. Figs, Belgian yeast. Fruity.
T: Follows nose. Fruity and floral with a great sweetness. So full of life.
M: Hella carbonated. Chewy, thick. Terrific.
O: A great Belgian dubbel my wife picked out at Hop City, Birmingham. Neither of us knew what was in store, but the taste was memorable. A bit pricey at $5.50 for and 11.2 oz bottle.

another fun beer from this brewery. a tip of the cap to the classic belgian dubbel, but this one is done with dates and honey, a cool way to add fermentables and flavor without the classic use of candy sugar in this style, at least in its normal capacity. blonde in color for a dubbel, more light amber or copper than brown, with a half inch of fizzy murky head. it smells sweet, the fruit and honey are evident right away, and the belgian yeast smells like a classic strain, fruity and prickly and familiar in the abbey types. lighter malt profile to the taste, but hints of maple syrup and molasses are there. the dates give it a very ramadan sort of vibe, like the dried fruits you eat as soon as the sun goes down. not overly sweet in the finish but its there. great carbonation and lighter feel for the style. much like the quad they do, the alcohol was expertly hidden in this one. fun beer, i like their clever twists on styles we all think we knew too well. way to shake things up!

Pours a murky light brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Small chunks of sediment sink to the bottom of the glass after the beer is poured. Smell is of malt, toffee, dark fruit, spice, and slight soy sauce aromas. Taste is much the same with dark fruit and tobacco flavors on the finish. A slight cardboard presence shows up in the flavor as the beer warms up. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a high level of carbonation with a crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is definitely showing some age and oxidation but still has some interesting aromas and flavors.

Poured into a 3 Monts tulip. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber with a huge half glass off-white head with good retention and slippery lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, light and dark stone fruit, some oxidation cardboard. Flavor is well integrated caramel malt, dark dried fruit and lighter contribution of light stone fruit, sweet. Finishes sweet with some non hop bitterness, perhaps from Belgian spices. Medium bodied with nice carbonation. An interesting dubbel with a mixture of fruit flavors spanning peach, plum, dates and raisins, but well melded. Finishes with sweet caramel and hints of oxidation. Although I just got this bottle, I suspect that it has some age on it and I don't know the storage conditions. I get the impression that some of the nuances may be covered by the light oxidation flavors here. It is definitely a beer that can handle aging and tastes good, with a pleasant heat-reduced caramel flavor in the finish.

Poured from bottle into pint glass at Lazy Boy White Plains, NY. Pours deep brown syrup color with a bit of see-through reddish blonde. No head at all. Smells of sweet belgian yeast with a lot of spice; mainly licorice. Taste is very much like it smells...licorice and dried fruit dominate. Its smooth, and suoer easy to drink, especially for such a high abv. Its good, but not the best dubbel out there. They are just very intersting to me and seem to have some different flavors to the style...worth a shot for sure.
