On tap at Local Option, served in a 12 oz. goblet. Listed simply as 't Smisje Oudenaarde.

Color is a reddish tan with creamy off white foam on the surface. The head has some staying power, with a lacy collar around the edges and minimal spotty lace in the glass. In the dim lights the clarity appeared to be a bit hazy.

Oddly sweet and tart fruit salad aroma, others mentioned fresh ginger.
No sourness or barrel funk to be found.

Tart fruity taste, estery yeast lends notes of cherry and plum. Malty with some unique flavors going on, hard to pin down. Medium bodied with frothy carbonation. It was drinkable enough, definitely didn't seem like 12%, but sort of an unusual blend of flavors. Not sure i'll pick up a bottle, though it was interesting to try.

2014: Sampled from a shared bottle labeled "Imperial Sour Ale", was not really impressed with it. 3.25

On-tap at the Cask Republic.

A: Hazy orange-brown body with a finger of fine tan head. Pretty good retention and lace for the strength. Solid.

S: Overripe stone fruit dominates, with some acetic notes in the background. More toffee and caramel as it warms. Not great.

T: The unappetizing rotten fruit is still here, but joined by a plethora of other flavors - citrus, raisin, plum, pepper, vinegar, sourdough, and booze. Phenolic notes on the aftertaste. Hugely complex, but frankly not that tasty.

M: Creamy, well-carbonated full body. Substantial.

O: Worth trying, but not terribly successful.
