Review based on sampling of both a 2014 and 2015 version of this beer.

This beer looked good in both cases, poured like a good BSDA should, though on the 2015 it was a little clearer. In both cases there was little head, and it dissipated quickly. The 2014 was very barrel heavy on the nose and taste. It was almost a little too strong, burying the other flavors. The 2015 was more balanced, with the barrel being more subtle and letting some of the other flavors, such as the sugars and dark fruits come through. The feel was a bit harsh as you could feel the booze in this one, but otherwise it was good. A nice beer overall, and a real sipper. The 2014 seems to have held up, so this one can be put away for a while and would make a good beer on a cold winter night.

North's SDB aged in Glenora barrels for 4 months. Poured from a Bridge 750 into a Bernardus goblet.

A - Some robust carbonation for an oak-aged beer. Fat bubbles cling the bottom of the glass while a rich, creamy amber head sticks around atop for quite a while, leaving a good residual head and some light lacing down the side of the glass. Cloudy and dark with amber hues as light shines through.

S - The real test of an oaker, and doesn't disappoint. Cherry, currant, plum, vanilla, bourbon, brandied cherry, dates, figs, stewed apples, belgo yeast funk, raisins, an almost oily, resinous estery backbone.

T - A wonderfully complex brew. Strong whiskied front with malty notes and a pronounced alcohol and bitterness that reveals itself quickly. Almost more akin in character to strongly hopped barleywine than a Belgian strong dark. Vanilla, toffee, cherry, sour apple, red wine, mineral, stewed corn, and molasses. Banana and spice reveal themselves in the finish along with some sweet vanilla tones and a lingering but not unpleasant bitter as well as an alcohol reminder that you are drinking a STRONG beer.

M - Rich, bitter, well-carbonated for an oak-aged, and really lingers on the palate.

O - A great brew, the most unique beer I've had in Halifax, even compared to North's other offerings. Get it while you can! They have a limited supply. Chances are if you're reading this they've already sold out, but keep your eyes on the brewery's facebook page for future outings of this wonderful brew.
