Poured from a 375mL bottle into a Lost Abbey Teku glass.
3.75/3.75/2.75/3.25/2.25
A: It pours purplish with no head. Opaque.
S: Smells musky and musty. Like a mix between wine and an old ale. Not entirely pleasant, but rich and intoxicating.
T: It's not very sour. More brackish and murky than anything else. The other sister I tried was far superior. A mild berry character is overwhelmed by sweetish malt and what tastes like old ale yeast. Muddy and pungent. Spoiled wine. Light funk. It's not as terrible as it may sound, but it's not swell either.
M: Thick and lowly carbonated.
O: If you like old ales and oxidized pinot, this is probably the beer for you. Elsewise, avoid.

This one is hard to rate because the 2014 into earlier 2015 (Bottle & Draft) was a whole different animal than this latest batch on tap @Strangeways. The latter batch was extremely tannic and the barrel completely overpowered everything. The previous version had much more blackberry flavor (still barely there though) and a more balanced oak character. From what I was told @ Strangeways, this beer is brewed with Brett only (no lacto/pedio), explaining the acetic/vinegar aroma and flavor. I felt like it was fine though with the earlier batch.. had a raspberry vinegar dressing thing going on that was quite pleasant, I was a fan and had one almost every time I visited the Brewpub for a glass bottle or filled a growler. My rating is for the earlier version..the later one drops to under 3 in most all aspects. Bummer, hope they get it back to where it was!

Strangeways "Wyld Sisters Olivia Blackberry Wild Sour"
on tap at the brewery, 18 December 2014
$10/13 oz.
It looks like MattSweatshirt beat me to the punch on this one as his review pretty much nails it (at least the last line). It's a decent enough sour, and I appreciate the oak, but it doesn't quite come together (the oak overrides the base beer a little bit) and the berry addition doesn't add a whole lot to it (of course I haven't tasted it 'straight', but what I mean is that it doesn't add a clearly beneficial accent). I'm 100% behind them on this, and I think this is a learning experience which will lead to better oak-aged sours in the future (perhaps using much more fruit, or not), but it's not stellar as it is. On the other hand, although it was expensive, I did enjoy it and I can't complain in that regard - I just think it has much greater potential. (And I was just a few miles away two days ago and I didn't make it over!!! Uggh.).

Dark brown body with a thin topping of sudsy khaki head.
Lots of oak and vanilla. Vinegar, caramel, and light blackberry.
More acetic than sour/tart. Smooth medium bodied with gentle carbonation. Dry.
Comes off like a mediocre Oud Bruin with faint blackberry.
