July 2013: 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.5%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. The aroma has moderately roasty and oaky notes (more sherry than whisky), hints of soy sauce, liquorice and blackstrap syrup. The flavour is not to sweet, roasty with coffee and liquorice notes, distinct oaky notes, you get an idea that this beer has been matured in a whisky barrel, hints of sherry again. Just a hint of peat smoke. Warming mouthfeel. Very good..

Bottled April 2013; drank 4/16/14 @ the Kid's.

Murky brown liquid; orange 'round the edges.

Minimal tan head; no lace.

Peat & caramel nose.

Thick, flat mouthfeel.

Peat, cocaine & sweet caramel flavor; booze on the finish.

Complex & challenging; worthwhile.

Appearance – zero head over a clear but nearly opaque dark brown body.

Aroma – slight woodiness, rich molasses, a little sweet, raisins, faint whiskey, vanilla and a little smoky

Taste – bitter coffee, not very sweet, woody, vanilla, a hint of whiskey at the end

Mouthfeel – very smooth and a little oily.

Overall – Good beer on its own, but after having the special reserve series (12 to 40) I would say this is slightly below the 30 and 40.
