Poured into a Duvel Tulip. Growler filled at the brewery on 1/19.

A- Pours a dark amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a small side patch of bubbly surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a solid ring behind.

S- Dank hop nose brings forth notes of pineapple, grapefruit and orange peel.

T- Equally dank hop flavor with more earthy tones than in the aroma. Notes of celery, fresh cut grass and a bit of catty quality. Bitterness is quite assertive while luckily the alcohol taste is not. Just enough malt character to keep things in check.

M- Sharp with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- I don't understand the less than favorable reviews for this beer. This beer is oozing with hop goodness. This was my first visit to Crank Arm and I'll be talking these guys up for a good while. Great job on this.

Poured on-tap at the brewery, the beer is a hazy, orange-caramel coloring, with a thin, frothy, low profile, white head. Nose of herbal spice, rich caramel, and vegetal hops notes. Flavors are bitter and resinous forward, with a blast of pineapple and melon, and a solid spiced undertone. Robust and smooth in mouth, with a bitter and resinous aftertaste. Dry, rich finish. Gets very big at the end.

Poured on tap at the brewery. Hops featured per the notes are Galaxy, Mosaic, and Wakatu.

Looks fantastic - slight haze, deep bright amber color.

Nose is mostly floral with a hint at some tropical notes, possible onion note.

Flavor is a bit off for me - definite onion prevalence. Otherwise nice bittering from the hops with the alcohol and malt sweet balancing it out nicely. Feel is right on. Long, bitter, drying finish. Really nice overall, but that one onion note is big for me and I'm not a fan.

On night I came in they were offering this DIPA as a beer for charity so decided to try it. Looks and smells like your typical hop heavy IPA as an auburn tinted brown body with two two finger head and lace patches, and a strong citric hop with touches of sweet malt aroma greet me. However, the beer is not balanced at all because it ends up being a dry, bitterly hop clunker that actually makes it hard to finish the whole pint. There are definite hops here but no real citric, earty, hoppy, dirty, fresh feel from them at all, more just a plain graininess. The malts are killed in this beer because I cannot get any discernible sweet or even breadlike tastes. I guess you can try it if still being offered just knowing that it is (so they say) for charity (will admit I didn't inquire about charity but I doubt they would lie about something like that).
