Appearance - The beer was a reddish purple color with a noted white head.

Smell - Tart blueberries lead the way in the nose. It was rather intense.

Taste - The beer was exceptionally tart. It was almost like straight, blueberry skin. The finish was intensely dry. I experienced cotton mouth levels of dryness.

Mouthfeel -The carbonation allowed my tongue to be peppered with sourness.

Overall - This is an intense version of the style, just too intense.

Purchased this bottle at the brewery this past spring. Poured into a tulip glass. Deep purple color with little head or lacing. Strong and distinct blueberry smell and taste. Basalmic vinegar and tart red wine. Tartness mellows with warming sweeter blueberry jam notes become evident. A bit of oak, vanilla and pepper. Nice full feel. Very ice beer!

12 oz bottle, poured into a teku at ~40 degrees F.

L: Pours a dark, largely opaque purple-red, not unlike a berry jam. Forms almost no head of white foam, which dies away swiftly to a thin ring.

S: Tart blueberries and acetic vinegar notes waft out of the glass, with some subtleties of wood and vinousness.

T: Incredibly sharp tartness, more mouth-puckeringly so than most other Side Project offerings I've had to date. Beneath the raw extract of tart sourness, there is a sweet berry jam, wreathed in balsamic vinegar. Some oaky tannins swim by near the finish.

F: Medium to full in body, with a sharpness that's mostly from the sour.

O: Delightful, for sour appreciators. Doubtless a tongue-flaying torment for others.

A big horrible salty soy sauce vinegar bomb. Mix a glass of soy sauce with apple cider vinegar and add a couple blueberries and you will have this beer. Absolutely horrible in every way. Wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole if I was given the chance again.

I received a bottle from @fbarber in the NBS BIF #14. Poured into a Side Project Lambic Style glass also provided by @fbarber. It pours a cloudy, magenta color with a very modest ecru-colored cap. The nose is exquisite: fragrant oaky blueberry with strong Brett notes. Wow, is it ever sour! The initial sourness is vinegar-like and almost overpowering but at the back end the blueberry provides some balancing sweetness. The best way to drink it is in small sips resting on the tip of the tongue. This ale has a pleasant, creamy mouth feel with without significant effervescence and it drinks easily at 6% ABV. Overall, Blueberry Flanders is really well-made and I appreciate it for the style. It's seriously sour and the casual drinker might not appreciate it.

Blend #3 Bottle.

Rich blueberry, balsamic vinegar, and oak on the nose. The palate is incredibly sour; enamel-stripping almost, but pretty true to style. As it opens up the sour punch mellows and allows really nice notes of dry oak & blueberry jam to shine through.
