I live in Brighton so I am familiar with The Canopy. This store does have a decent selection of beers and other items. There are only two gentlemen that work ( or own ) this store and they will help you if you need it.
My only knock on the store, like others have said, is there pricing is high. I really dont go there much anymore because I have found the beer selection at the Howell Meijer to be very good with much better prices.
Just one example of what Im refering to would be a four pack of Founders Cerise at The Canopy sells for $14.00, where at Meijer it sells for $9.99 so I would be happy to support the local mom and pop shop if there prices were to fall in line with others.

There are some beers here that are pricey at a sleazy level (WAY too high). It certainly seems like they are trying to rip you off. Other beers are priced at the right level. It seems like the staff doesn't have much knowledge beyond what the distributor tells them. They really need to be a little more polite. Half the time when I come in, I don't even get a head nod even if I'm the only person in the store. They make it seem like I'm wasting their time when I'm buying their excessively priced beer.
Regardless of all that, this store has the best selection in town. Stop in here if you're in need of some craft beer.

I have been in this store several times over the past few years. I have ALWAYS been treated very rudely or as if I am suspicious.
Beside that whole thing, I do think that they have a solid selection of beers. Not all of the prices are excessively high, some are right where they should be.
The make your own six pack section is a little weak, and a lot of the time consists of many beers from the previous season. It takes a lot of time to browse because of the lack of labeled organization. If you aren't looking for something particular it becomes a bit overwhelming. Overall, it's a great store if you live in the area, but nothing to bend over backwards to see.

I stopped in here today for the first time on a M59 - Grand River - US 23 loop trip to check a few stores. The people working here were nice and friendly and quick to offer assistance.
The layout and stock of the place is pretty much inline with what all the other posters have said. Scattered on the shelf with a loose bit of organization. Nothing really stood out to me in terms of hard to find stuff or excellent deals. I did buy a 4 pack of the SA Imperial Stout for $11 in support of what seems to be the only decent beer store in town. I guess if you are a local, this is the place to go but I would find myself pressed to go out of my way again to stop in here since I live in Waterford.

Overall a great beer, wine and liquor store. The micro selection was great, and the import selection, though not very extensive, had a lot of nice quality beers.
My only real complaints are the lack of a systematic organization system for the beers, and the fact that you are not allowed to break up a six pack to mix and match. There's quite a lot of $4+/bottle imports in 4 packs that a weary traveler such as myself might only want to purchase 1 of.
Since I'm only here in Brighton for travel, I also wanted to purchase a glass to enjoy my beer at the hotel. Theres a small, dusty selection of spirits glasses, but no beer glasses.

i happen to live in brighton mi and just realized that a beer store with one of the biggest selections of imports & micros was located just 5 min. from home.
great selection of mi brews hard to find bells all the dogfishhead founders, dark horse, arbor just to name a few
prices were fair for the hard to find items along the line with the rest of the area.
all in all a great place to shop with a staff that knows their beer not to mention liquor and wine.
a must see store a little hard to find because its tucked behind an office building but plenty of front row parking that makes it easier to carry out your bags to.

I stopped by this place for the first time a few weeks back. I agree they do have a pretty nice selection. Most of founders, bells, and other mi brews. Decent amount of imports. The thing is the stuff is EXPENSIVE. very very expensive! 15 bucks for bells best brown...!! Yeah , ill pass on that. Not only that , but I see way too many expired stuff, and dusty, ripped up boxes....
they have a few things I cant get anywhere else in the area, but Id rather drive 20 - 30 min away and save money , get better service, selection, and most likely a lot fresher.
go if you must, but save the gas and find somwhere else to go.

Stopped by the Canopy beer store in Brighton last night. Its practically in my back yard, living in South Lyon. Very impressive selection of micro and specialty brews. I was a little overwelmed at first, but I took my time looking over the vast selection of beers. The staff was very anxious to help me. In the matter of fifteen minutes they asked three times if I needed any help. The down side to this store is you cannot break up six packs. They do sell a lot of single beers though. Great selection of Michigan brews, Bells, Founders, New Holland, Dark Horse and Michigan Brewing Company. Also, I noticed that some of their prices seem to be three or four dollars more on selected brews. All in all a good store to visit if traveling through the Livingston county area.
