Black with a low, creamy off-white head, settling to a fine ring. Coffee comes through first in the smell, but has a bright, lighter roast quality to it that brings some astringency as well as a berry fruitiness and blends with a darker chocolate syrup quality. Flavors of coffee roast, light char, berries, and cherries. Medium bodied, dry mouthfeel exhibiting some coffee acidity in the finish.

I had this on draught at the brewery. It pours an attractive mahogany color with dark cola hues. The foamy, khaki-colored head dissipated very quickly. It smells of freshly-brewed coffee, roasted malt, nuts, and a whiff of tobacco and char. The taste opens with freshly-brewed, dark roasted coffee, burnt nuts, and bitter, earthy char. At mid-sip there are notes of bakers chocolate. It's medium-bodied and not very thick or viscous but it has a lot of substance at 8.8% ABV. Overall, it's a solid coffee stout. Not at the level of FBS or the other leaders of the style but very drinkable and enjoyable.

Dark brown color. Very thin tan head. Coffee aromas. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, and hazelnut. Good amount of carbonation. Body is little weak for a stout. Slightly watery finish. Brewed with Guatemalan coffee from the local Carrboro Coffee Roasters.

Black, velvety black (SRM 40+). The dark chestnut head explodes in a Dogfish Head snifter before gradually morphing from a dense creamy foam to glistening sea foam.

The aroma is initially dominated by roasted coffee that fades to black chocolate. Soap quickly detracts as does wet cardboard. Something is clearly off here.

The flavor is sweet and lactic with a background of roasted malt. Other flavors include milk chocolate and latté. Astringency is light and building but never overwhelms the background flavor. The finish is sweet, moderate, and short.

The full body and creamy texture is displaced by explosive carbonation. Alcohol is controlled. Residual sugar is left on the lips.

No Quarter is, in my opinion, too sweet for the style. It is more similar to a Milk Stout. Regardless, I enjoyed it on an early Autumn day.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear jet black in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy dark mocha in color which slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of fresh roasted coffee (though more of a light/medium roast than a dark roast) with some light notes of cocoa and very light hints of berries/flowers from the coffee beans.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of roasted malts followed by moderate to strong flavors of cold pressed light/medium roast coffee. Light flavors of semi-sweet chocolate and cocoa. Light to moderate amounts of roasty bitterness which slowly fades away.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate to significant amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: The coffee used in this brew is quite smooth and lighter roast than many of the other stouts - good coffee flavors with slightly less bitterness. Definitely worth grabbing, enjoyable and easy to drink with the smoother mouthfeel.

On draft. It's not bad. I don't get much aroma and the mouthfeel is light for double/imperial stout

Bottled 1/1/15. Poured from a bomber into a nonic, the beer is jet black in the depths, with brown edging under light. Some carbonation action in the body, and the beer is capped by a mushroom cloud of billowing foam that settles out into a low profile, bubbly, tan colored head. Aromas of roasted coffee, nutty sweetness, toasted grains, hints of bittersweet chocolate, cream highlights, and some earthy notes. Pretty well balanced nose. Flavors are heavily roasted forward, with a bitter coffee blast on the forward tongue. Some subtle cocoa nib highlights, both bitter and roasted, as well as some earthy undertones. Hints of campfire smoke and char sneak in there, too, giving this a layered feel without diverting from the main trend of the palate. Smooth and light in mouth, with a solid dryness straight through to the finish. The aftertaste has a bit more of the char and smoke blending with the coffee notes, and there is a solid bitter linger through the finish. Good beer.
