12 ounce bottle -> Highlands Brewing snifter

A - cloudy medium gold with an initial one and one half inch head, excellent retention and excellent lacing.

S - Wow is this stuff aromatic. Pine, citrus, earthy notes, bread

T - Starts off smooth and mild but as the flavor progresses some definite citrus notes (lemon, orange peel, and grapefruit) manifest. It finishes with spicy pine flavored hops.

M - medium carbonation. Bit of an aftertaste

O - This is not a world changing IPA, but it is a good one. Available only in Georgia (or so I was told when I bought it at Hop City Atlanta), it is worth buying if you happen to be in the Peach State.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance 3.75: Poured out a lovely, coppery gold. No real head, but decent lacing.

Smell 4.0: Great bouquet on this brew. Emphasis is on the piney hops, but there are a few hints of citrus in there as well.

Taste 3.5: Front is dry and slightly bread-like. Middle is flat and also dry. Finish is where a light malt and lots of hops wash in. Like in the smell, the emphasis is on the piney hops: lots of Chinook and maybe some Simcoe. Aftertaste is nice and saves the beer: great balance and very refreshing, "juicy" on the palate.

Mouthfeel 3.5: Good level of conditioning.

Overall 3.5: Good but not great IPA. The bouquet is outstanding, but the brew is far too dry for my tastes, especially the middle taste level. As such, I would recommend it for a try, but it is not a session-worthy IPA in my opinion.

A: Clear golden copper hue with 2 fingers of fizzy off white head. The head lasts throughout the enjoyment of this beer leaving thick lacing all down the glass. Very good looking ipa.

S: Mild grapefruit and honey. Bits of vanilla mixed in.

T: Good hop burst with this one that finishes with a dry bitter finish. First a rush of grapefruit that blends with honey and smooths out to a vanilla finish that is on the dry tangy side. bitter tangy citrus aftertaste lingers for a while. Good balance between the citrus and sweet flavors.

M: Medium bodied ale. Nice carbonation blends the flavors from bitter to sweet and back to bitter again.

O: A solid ipa. I like the balance and the play between the bitter and sweet then back to a tangy bitter finish. Solid ipa that I would recommend to friends.

I have enjoyed numerous bottles, tap pours, and 2 kegs of this outstanding IPA. It is without a doubt one of my favorite local brews and one of my favorite IPA's period. This outstanding IPA has a generous mouthfeel w/o being too over the top, excellent hop balance w/o being too astringent, and always a fresh, crisp taste. Also, this beer has always been consistently delicious all the times I have enjoyed it.

12oz bottle from Barrel and Barley (Woodstock, GA). 1.69. No discernible bottle date. Served in a goblet.

Pours an opaque golden amber with two fingers of pale head. Maintains a modest layer and laces quite well.

Pretty straight forward nose with pine, grapefruit and floral hop aromas.

A bitter mix of citrus zest, pine and earthy floral hops. Theres some cracker and caramel back there too, letting you know the malts were not forgotten. A dab of pepper, a speck of sugar and just a smidge of booze round things out.

Slick, medium body with perky carbonation. Dry, bitter finish of pine and citrus peel.

I had dismissed this local release for the past 6 months but I'm glad I picked up a bottle to try. Hop Dang Diggity may not bring anything new to the IPA party but it's well brewed, solid stuff.
