Everything about this place screams "funky, hip brewery", excpt for the beer. Repurposed old brick building in downtown Staunton, parking available. Inside has beautiful mural art. Small bar and tables, windows look out onto the street. Great service, kind of fun, I just wish the beer was better.

Storefront brewery in downtown Staunton. L shaped bar with about 12 seats. Then some tables and booths in the rest of the space. Brewhouse through doors into the space next to the taproom. Chill neighborhood bar type of vibe. 14 beers on tap, good variety of styles. A few beers available in cans, plus they do crowlers.

I walked past here a few years ago and they were closed. I have to say it looked a bit dreary and not up to much. I think at the time they may have been selling homebrew supplies and there was just a lot of clutter in the windows. Boy was I in for a surprise! Nice bar area with tables spread throughout-beer garden in back but I did not go out there. That area is dog friendly just not inside. Everything I had was top notch-sweet potato pie porter, IPA, and their RIS Moriarty was excellent had to get some to go. Service was quick and attentive. 8 or 9 beers going the day I was there and while not a huge variety there was definitely something for everyone.

This place is super dark and obviously put no effort into ambiance inside or out. Sticky floor and tables, seemed like a local's dive bar.
I've been to breweries all of the country and all over the world. I can hands down say this is the worst brewery and worst customer service I have ever experienced. The bartenders were hostile and cold from the moment I walked up to the bar. Breweries should be a place of community and entrepreneurship, this place is the complete opposite.
I called ahead to ask if they allow dogs inside or out, they said they don't allow dogs inside but they do outside. We got there and sat outside, I had a beer and they came out and said i had to leave because I had a dog... why would you tell me otherwise over the phone? When we were walking to our car out back they came out and yelled at us for leaving through the gate in their outdoor section rather than walking through the brewery. You told us you don't allow dogs, why would you want us to walk through your brewery with one?

This place had common tasting beer, and was not worth the money for the hassle we went through with the staff. The owner also berates each person who leaves a negative review on google maps. Unbelievable.

Cool little brewery taproom on the fringe of reviving rustic downtown. U-shaped bar seats 12, another dozen tables about the room, and an outdoor beer garden area. Eight beers on tap, the two I had were very nice. Friendly service. Was there for lunch, so hard to pin down the vibe, but the has the feel of a well frequented local hangout complete with trivia night, karaoke and live music. Look forward to coming back.

Small batches of big beers. More hits than misses. Bartender was reasonably knowledgeable and very friendly. Great service. Was surprised at how empty it was for a Friday night, though

Visited on a Saturday afternoon after the release of Moriarty so the place was busy.

Vibe - Clean room, tables and chairs. Everything looked nicely placed, good variety of seats. Seems like a nice place to relax and have a few beers, several patrons were reading. Easy enough to hear conversation with my wife.

Quality - Clean, nice glassware. Allowed room for head for beers that needed it. Good temps. Reasonable prices for different sizes of beer (5oz, etc).

Service - 2 of 3 bartenders were pretty laid back and cool. The third seemed worn down and while not hostile, she was not overly friendly. Given the steady flow of people, they were working quickly and efficiently. To add to the complexity, with the release they were filling a number of 32oz growlers.

Selection - Nice selection, wide variety including a grisette. I had a porter, and being that it was the Moriarty release, two variants. All three were good, the Buffalo Trace Moriarty was good enough I took home a growler of it.

Overall, nice cozy place to hang out and have a few beers. No bottles or cans so growler only, but they are quiet efficient at filling growlers. No dedicated restaurant, but the Depot Grille will deliver there and outside food is welcome.

Visited on a Friday afternoon as part of our Brewery Crawl along Rout 81 from NOVA to Blacksburg. The place was not busy when we entered.

V - A nice clean space. Plenty of room inside and out (back). A good size bar. But the vibe can so much depend on the patrons and staff present. The bartender hurt this place's vibe rating. 4.0

Q - Correct and clean glassware, reasonably correct temperatures, drinking at the brewery, what else could you want.4.0

Ser - Fast and friendly, but ready for the banter that can sometimes happen at the bar. 3.75

Sel - Very happy with the selection. A good variety from light to dark, hoppy to roasty. I had the Hot Chocolate (Mexican Stout), which I thought was excellent. 4.25

Nice facility with a bar, tables, and an outdoor area with more tables. About 8 beers on tap with some variety but a clear concentration on pale ales and IPAs. No barrel-aged beers on tap at the time of my visit but a bunch of barrels were in clear view with the next one to be tapped in just a few weeks. Beer quality is way better than the nearby Shenandoah Valley Brewing.

Local beer made on site some of which is quite good. Over priced and understaffed this tap room has lots of local support nevertheless and the bar staff and locals are super friendly. A food wagon out back is a plus. Go for the people and drink the AM OG Milk Stout.

My second visit to Redbeard was a very enjoyable one. Stopped by on my way home from a Harrisonburg brewery and got to meet Jonathan and sample everything on draft.

The taproom is somewhat small, but feels very quaint. There's beer barrel-aging in one corner and a decent sized patio (usually with food trucks nearby) out back. All of the beers are excellent and nail each style very well, but the big draw here is the barrel aged beers. Big and bold bourbon aging to an already tasty stout leaves you wanting to stay awhile and get hammered. At least I did.

Don't let the pink walled exterior scare you off- go in and enjoy some of the best beers in the 540.

I love red beard. I've been coming here since their opening night. Their new beer the Pennyroyal Pale is one of the best most drinkable pale ales I've ever tasted. I thought their American Pale Ale A.P.A was my fave till I tasted the Penny. Awesome! Definitely worth the trip if you're in the area

The owner curses at you. He is a jackass. Tell him I said so. Wow. 150 characters is a lot. That was barely 50. Best Black IPA in the state. Big stouts. London Porter available year round! Who does that?

We've been in there a few times now, sometimes to sit, sometimes just to fill the growler. My current rave is Irene, both because it's named for THE Woman, and, because, like her, it's mysterious, subtle, and sneaks up on you when you least expect it. I'll be back in before the week is out, to try the latest and I am sure I'll get the same warm welcome and excellent service I've come to know.

Redbeard was our last stop in a little tour of Staunton's beer joints my wife and I undertook recently. It was also our favorite! A couple of blocks away from the main streets where all the bars and restaurants are, but close enough to walk. You can tell this is a place for locals and beer lovers. I felt welcomed right away, and had so much fun thereafter!

Redbeard has a nice little bar/tasting room that feels like somebody's living room. Tastefully decorated with art prints, Andy Warhol images and quality stuff. Most folks sat at the bar, we chose a table.

There are "only" eight taps, but all of them are good: Black Rye IPA, A.M.O.G. Stout (a milk stout aged in coffee bans), Deep Luscious Amber, Spice Quadruple, Best Coast IPA... not a bad brew here. And they serve it on 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 ounces, so you can try a lot.

Super nice bartender and amicable patrons. I would definitely hang out here a lot if I lived around!

I'm from Staunton, but moved North to Harrisonburg in '99. Since being in the Craft Beer scene, I was excited to hear Staunton getting a brewery. Located down in the Wharf District is the perfect location. There's so much in walking distance from the brewery, so there no excuse to not stop by after having lunch/dinner in Downtown Staunton. Window front faces the street and there's Hop vines in the window, so it was easy to see/find. The decor is right on par with the Wharf area. Not the biggest taproom, but I think it's decent for the area. Was greeted with Hello's and a smile. The guys and I decided to do flights. 6 beers, in little Mason Jar like spice jars. Nice touch! Instead of serving up all 6 at once, they did one at a time. I like that, keeps them cold. I think we were all fans of everything, but the 221B Baker Brown, it was the winner. The flight had a good cross selection of styles, from Rye, to Quad. Price was on point. Overall, I was quite pleased with Redbeard. Need to go back again and see how things have changed in the 8 month since being there. Do yourself a favor and stop in!

Small little brewpub located right in the wharf area of Staunton. Just recently opened up so it's quite limited in amenities, only food available at the moment is chips. Plenty of paid-parking available right across the street in the wharf at .50 cents/hour. Walking distance from homebrew supply shop(Shenandoah Brewing Company), excellent craft beer store(Shenandoah Hops), and many good restaurants. Quality beer with friendly and knowledgeable staff, a must visit if you're a local beer fan. Best local beer by a mile in my opinion, the owner knows what he's doing.
