This Nut Brown is brewed with English Ale yeast. In English tradition, we use only English Fuggle hops, which are low in bitterness and produce a mild floral hop taste. The complexity of this Nut Brown is created mainly by the Chocolate and Dark Chocolate malted barley. There is a roasted coffee flavor with hints of chocolate and nutty or nutmeg finish on the back of the tongue.

A - dark brown high clarity. No head at all. Zero. Bottle is very drab.

S - sweet. Malty. Rich. Maple toast and pecan sandies.

T - pleasant. Nutty tones ( obviously ) sweet. See above aromas.

M - better mouth feel than the appearance would suggest. Silky and smooth yet mildly fizzy. A touch watery.

D - a pleasant delightful little surprise of a beer. It is very unassuming in appearance yet delivers well.

Aroma: Deep baker's chocolate character up front. Bordering on roasty. Dark bread crust and toast-like malt character. Moderately low earthy hop character. Clean fermentation profile.

Appearance: Mahogany pour, clear, and a low off-white head that retains well. Appears still in my dimpled stein.

Flavor: Big burst of milk chocolate character up front. More toasty and slightly nutty malt profile. There is a slight enjoyable sweetness that gets off-set by the earthy bitter hop character. Slightly smokey but very understated and in the background. Balance is nearly even. Finish is clean and dry. A pleasant chocolate-like after taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium high carbonation. A slight carbonic bite. No astringency or alcohol heat.

Overall impression: Wow! I have to admit, I find most Northern English Browns pretty boring. This was bordering on something like a beefy Brown with enough malt character to hang out with Brown Porters and possibly some Robust Porters. Enjoyed this immensely. Nice job.

A - 4.0 - Nice super dark brown color with a thick off white head that leaves a nice lacing.

S - 4.0 - Nutty, roasty, coffee, peanut butter, smoke.

T - 4.25 - Roasty nuttiness, coffee, smoke. Caramel.

M - 4.0 - Medium. Alc covered. Aftertaste is roasty nuttiness.

O - 4.0 - One of the best nut browns I've had, by far. Great beer and I'm proud to say it's from a small brewery right next door to AZ in NM!

Poured from 12 oz bottle into nonic glass

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, with a fingers worth of tan head that dissipates rather quickly.

Smell: Sweet malt, chocolate, caramel, toffee and biscuits.

Taste: Again more sweet malty flavors of chocolate, caramel and toffee. With a nice bready biscuit quality at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full body , very silky with a touch of bitterness at the end.

Overall: Fairly decent Nut Brown, very tasty, and very sessionable.

Poured into a pint glass. Brown with a good finger of dirty white head. Lots of bubbles visible.

Good smell of roasted malt and the "nutty".

Tastes of roasted malt, a little chocolate in the background and mild bitterness at the end.

Smooth texture, lots of bubbles, medium body.

A good brown ale. A little more of a creamy body would make this better for me, but it was enjoyable nevertheless.

Appearance - Dark brown/black body. One finger tan head with good lacing and decent to low retention.

Smell - Slightly roasty malt. Some coffee. Mildly lactic.

Taste - Alcoholic. Dusty dry. Some coffee. Kind of stale.

Mouthfeel - Solvent front end with a slightly creamy finish. Mostly watery, but offers some smoothness.

Overall Drinkability - Decent beer with really no off characters, but nothing really special either.

Clear brown ale with a small brown head.

Smell is sweet and fruity with hints of chocolate and toffee. Mild herbal hop leaf and a touch of leather and fig.

The taste starts out sweet and smoky with a chocolate soda aftertaste. Hints of tobacco and leather and a basically sweet ale, hints of milk stout flavor.

Mouthfeel is good.

Pretty good beer here, but this is really sweeter than most English versions.

Once again, had to sample a New Mexican variety. The liquid was a dark brown with ruby hues out of the bottle. The head was off-white, bubbly and retained fairly well with some scattered lacing. The aroma was sweet, roasted nuts like honey peanuts, roasted malt and soft caramel. The flavors were also sweet, caramel malt, molasses, walnuts, hints of chocolate and some floral hops in the background. A nice blend but nothing outstanding. The mouthfeel was medium to light and the carbonation medium to low which when combined made the brew a touch too thin. Still, the flavors were on point and the lightness made it quite sessionable.

Smell: Lightly malty, nutty aroma with a hint of chocolate and some floral hoppiness.

Taste: Sweetish, nutty maltiness. Again, a hint of chocolate. Some wateriness thins out the already thin flavors. Light floral hops, though not much bitterness to offer. Drying, nutty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation.

Drinkability: So-so for a fairly light brown ale.

Pours a very deep clear ruby with basically no head (from a very gentle pour). Heavy nut fragrance, surprise, surprise. Molasses present as well. Flavor is strong with nuts. Might be a bit too much for some as it is pretty distinct and in your face...err...mouth. Actually. I think it is a bit too much for me. It seems to just hijack the beer and take over everything, without allowing anything else to really speak for itself much. Over time though it does seem to calm down a bit...or maybe my tongue is overloaded and can’t taste it anymore. Feel is thick and syrupy. I have to knock the drinkability down because of the intense nut flavor and thick syrupy feel. It is so strong that I wouldn’t be able to go anymore than just this one. Nice to try. Nicer to move on to something else.

I tried this at the Albuquerque Press Club, in New Mexico.

The beer had a good sweet, malty, nutty taste. The beer was not too over powering or too heavy.

The head was nice and beer looked and tasted creamy in my mouth

I really liked this beer and would have it again if I was in the New Mexico area.

Pretty solid little beer here. Nice-looking, very dark brown with a bone-colored head. Smells nondescriptly malty, hints of chocolate perhaps. Tastes chocolatey and mildly roasted with a pleasant English toffee quality. A bit of buttery diacetyl creeps in as well. Very nutty finish. Unexpectedly full-bodied. I could see this being a very popular pub beer.

Served in the bottle and pored into my glass at a restaurant in Santa Fe, this beer is a deep brown color with reddish hues. It smeels sweet, like molasses. Small tan head that disappeared fairly quickly leaving a small rim at the top of the beer. Also left minimal lacing. The taste was a little disappointing. It didn't have the richness of other nut browns I've tried and enjoyed. The taste was sort of flat and even with nothing especially exciting in your mouth. That said, the taste wasn't unpleasant either. Enjoyable but not "outta this world". I'd have it again if other choices are scant.

Purchased at the brewery & consumed the next day. Easily the best of their beers that are widely availible (they need to bottle that imp stout, but that's another story)

Pours rich brown with an 1.5" effervescent offwhite head. Good head retention, no lacing

Smell: Toasty malts and some nutiness

Taste: Toasted malt, pecan-like nuttines& then finishes sweet and malty

MF: Good carbonation. Smooth with slight creaminess

Goes down really easy, a very enjoyable nut brown

tried this one on tap in new mexico, was better than i was expecting. dark but not too heavy in appearance, taste had prominent coffee flavors, some malts, very little in the way of hops or bitterness. smooth clean aftertaste, no alcohol presence noticed. its good but a bit thin on complexity and depth; tastes like the recipe has room to mature and get tweaked a bit. overall a quality brew, im glad i tried it. a great beer to sip in the mountains of new mexico on a cold night.

Clear, brown-garnet in hue; the liquid fits my stylistic ideals well. Beige head, at the apex the foam was only a half finger tall. Head retention was fair, the bubbles quickly faded to a soapy cap and dissipated further to a skinny collar. There wasn’t enough subsequent lacing to be noteworthy. Overall, I like the appearance… it fits the style, nothing more but nothing less.

Not much aroma depth but it does smell like a Brown Ale. I am surprised I get rummy raisins, molasses, and fruity hints, this makes the beer feel bigger then it really is, very cool! The malt follows, while not too descriptive it gives a positive vibe with some dry caramel crackers smells, a kiss of nuts (this is not a nutty Brown Ale), and some chocolate. Low potency and maybe a bit to direct but overall, the bouquet is good. Inviting, for sure.

The palate doesn’t deliver on the promise of the nose. The rum/raisins/molasses is not found on the palate; I am disappointed. I loved that aspect of the bouquet; it was something different from the typical Brown Ale. Anyway, the palate does offer some dry cocoa powder, some nuts, and some caramel. I wish the flavors were richer but the dryness is a nice twist. The finish is a tad muted and watery but overall this is a decent Brown Ale. I really like English Brown Ales and I would consider this a good stab at the style. It took awhile for the aftertaste to develop; the blend of chocolate, caramel crackers and nuts with a kiss of hop earthiness shines graciously. The end is stronger then the start but overall this is a likeable drink.

Medium-light in body, watery but not too distracting, the carbonation is low; overall the mouthfeel is tolerable but more heft would have been nice.

Brown Ales are a great change of pace, IMO. If I get sick of hoppy beers or Belgians I like to turn to Brown Ales (or Schwarzbier). Plus both styles are tasty but friendly enough to crossover a BMC beer drinker along the way. This offering is plenty drinkable; I could kickback with a few of these and a ham sandwich with spicy brown mustard. What a nice session beer. Thank you Aunt Kathy and Uncle Rick for sending this dandy NM beer my way; it is worth a try.

Dark bronze that, when backlit, betrays a lucent tawny hue with a generous admixture of red. The light tan head isn't airy--but neither is it particularly creamy or dense--and falls slowly without leaving much lace. Standard issue cap; no more, no less.

Nut Brown has a semi-appealing aroma of light cocoa and nuts with a suggestion of hops. This is one of those noses that isn't exceedingly weak, but it does take a concerted effort to appreciate. It's pretty much unnoticed if one is simply taking a drink from the glass.

This English brown ale favors the lighter end of the style spectrum, both in terms of flavor and body. The malt backbone is fairly limp, not a good characteristic in what is supposed to be a malt-dominant beer. The light (and I do mean light) chocolate flavor mirrors the aroma, the nuttiness has gone into hiding and a mild sourness and mild hop bitterness have arrived. The body is too light and the mouthfeel is frankly watery on the back end.

Sierra Blanca Nut Brown isn't a bad little English brown ale, but it doesn't have enough guts to satisfy me. Even though I love big beer, I can appreciate the lighter styles if they're well-crafted. A heavier hand with the ingredients would improve SBNBB immensely. Thanks to SeanChouffe for this offering from a little known microbrewery in the Land of Enchantment.

The Sierra Blanca Nut Brown poured a light reddish-brown with a thin light tan frothy head that went to a bubbly collar and then disappeared.

Its aroma was roasted malt and chocolate.

The flavor was sweet caramel malt, surprisingly lightly roasted, with a light bitter finish. A little on the bland side. It was fairly smooth, but had low carbonation and was a little thinnish and watery.

Overall, I thought it was a little too sweet, and I expected more roastiness. It was not bad though. It displayed some Scottish Ale qualities.

The beer after disembarking from the 12 ounce brown bottle sets in the glass a transpicuous deep brown with ruby high lights, the head is substantial and spumescent in texture, the color a beauteous light tan and the resultant lace a thick and sticky sheet to obfuscate the glass. Nose is caramel and nutty sweet, fresh and clean to the senses, start has a sweet malt start with the top light in feel to the palate. Finish is benignly acidic, the hops light to the palate, very dry, rather light for my taste but a nice 112 degree Arizona summer day beer, which ain’t nuttin’ to sneeze at in my books.

Superb tan head with slippery lace; dark amber in color

The aroma has a hint of nutmeg spice. Malt is the key smell.

Some hop, but this is a malty beer. Strong chocolate malt notes. The aftertaste dies quickly and the beer is lighter in body than I expected. Good carbonation; relatively dry, making this a refreshing brew.

Brown to deep garnet color, a tan head that is a bit thin. This beer, like the rest from this brewery, is brilliantly clear. Notes of roast malt, a nuttiness, and a fruitiness all together in the aroma. Nice malty beer. Fairly fruity tasting as well. The promised nuttiness in the nose is not as apparent in the taste. Appropriately there is not much hop presence anywhere. This allows for the malt to come through. This beer does not quite deliver though. It is good just missing some nut brown malt complexity.

The dark chestnut color is clear and clean. Not much but a mild malt and slight clove aroma. The medium malt body is thinner than it appears. Medium citrusy hops are almost equal in strength to the malt (pretty balanced). Not much head. Wet and Drinkable. Malt is dominant quality toward the end of the glass as a hint of nutty texture presents itself.

This is a very good Brown Ale, my sister brought some back from a trip out west. Beer is always the best souvenir, it's a liquid post card. Pours a light chestnut color with a thin beige head. Pleasant roasty nut aroma. Flavor of brown sugar, nuts and hops with a good dry finish. A good New Mexican beer.
