another 16oz fill nabbed at lake ronk (billed as just "west coast ipa" but has the 70 on the tap handle) earlier today...enjoyed from a snifter.

a - brew pours a transparent orange w a classic finger plus of frothy foamy ipa head from a hard pour. transparent and classic looking to style. head had nice staying power and lace is in line with big stringy clingy chunks.

s - nose sings hops. big powerful ripe fruit. not dank and not overhopped like i would expect. in fact this ipa smells fan-fricken-tastic. there are some interesting spicy almost incense like tickles on the finish of a big whiff. i didn't pick up these notes on a small sample i had at the time of the fill...this is promising.

t/m - as with most ipas that smell fantastic, the taste is a bit of a let down. here the hops take on a much more sticky dank feel and really coat your mouth. very resiny. the fruit is there, but a bit buried under the thickness of the hop. body although thick and chewy, feels a bit watered down.

o - west coast ipa is a big claim from a brewery that happens to fall fairly far east on LI (actually fairly far east for the US!)...but i have to say, this IS a west coast ipa. definitely doesn't fall along the lines of alpine or kern, but this is worth checking out for the east coast hopheads.

Poured a dark copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a balmy piney hop with a touch of juicy orange.

The taste consisted of pine and citrus with a crisp caramel and lingering bitterness.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side of the style with dry, bitter finish.

Overall a very nice hop forward IPA. Nicely made.
