far better as a belgian pale than as a brett beer. it is much more of the former than the latter, although i guess it really doesnt matter, these guys have never been real worried about style guidelines, why should we judge them on them? we shouldnt. this is bright and golden and clear, good inch of lacy white head on top, nice retention and sticking on the edges of the glass. it smells like belgian yeast and hops, almost belgian ipa, except the hops have a really noble type european vibe to them, and are real grassy. spruced up a bit i suppose by the fruity notes in the yeast, which move from grape to lemon, and are quite powerful. the base beer seems to be mostly pilsener malt based, but there could be other grains in here too. in the flavor, the belgian yeast leads the way, almost not trace at all of the brett until the later half of it, and even then its just a delicate fruity funk. the belgian yeast is the dominant flavor, but its really hoppy too. i like the boldness of it, and how well hidden the alcohol is. i could get into real trouble with this thing on a hot summer day. refreshing and brightly carbonated. these guys continue to impress me with each and every beer, and i always enjoy being surprised by their stuff. have a few more fun cans in the fridge to crack too!!!
