Finally bit the bullet and grabbed a sixer of this stuff from the LCBO (hate buying six when unsure of a brew). Poured a one finger bubbly off white head upon a semi-clear amber body with crimson highlights. Not a lot of retention or lacing, reducing to a thin collar. Appears to be well carbonated.

Scent is grapefruit and resinous pine, plenty of sweet malt.

Taste is leafy, earthy pine, grapefuit and papaya, caramel malt, a little sweet. Well balanced.

This is a medium bodied brew with plenty of carbonation, semisweet and dry it has a well balanced bitterness on the back end.

A good brew and definitely worth another go.

Alright, bit too biscuity, hops are present but leans towards malt.

275ml Bottle

Appearance - Clear dark copper colour with an average size frothy beige coloured head. There is low amount of carbonation and there is some decent lacing. The head lasted for 4-5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, caramel/toffee, hops, grapefruit

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and most of the taste is made up of caramel, hops, and malts. There is also a bit of a grapefruit flavour, but this beer seems more like an english IPA than an american one. It ends with a caramel sweet and bitter hoppy aftertaste.

Overall - I wonder why the bottles have to be so small. It's an okay beer, but for the price there are better/larger options available.

Appearance: It has a golden/amber color to it. It has a nice off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of piney hops, some citrus and roasted caramelly malts.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has caramelly malt character but stronger than I expected, piney, earthy and citrusy hops follow.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium/high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

A: Dark copper body with one finger of white head. Some retention and lacing.

S: Notes of caramel, some citrus fruit and hops. Interesting mix of aromas.

T: Good front of citrus fruits mixed with loads of bitter hops. The hops is almost to overpowering.

M: Medium bodied with high carbonation. The texture is crisp and water like with a strong bitter hop aftertaste.

O: Good IPA, very pleasing to drink. The hops I feel are a little overpowered and the fruit and malt could some through more.

Found a 6 pack of 275 mL bottles in Toronto on July 16, 2011. It appears Mr. Duggan is now a part of Cool Brewing Inc.. Also listed on BA as "Mike Duggan #09 IPA"

Pours a nice rusty amber colour with a small, tan-coloured head that gets retained as a collar, but leaves very little in the way of lace.

Nice citrus hop tang to the aroma along with a sweet, roasted malt backing. Bit of a lake water smell I could do without.

Tangy at the front of the tongue before a solid chocolaty malt backing kicks in. Citrus appears at almost the same time as the malts, creating a neat chocolate-orange flavour.

Very easy-going with little to no trace of its ABV until you actually feel it. Goes a bit thin on the back-end before a nice bitter after-taste takes over.

Hoping to see this outside of Toronto now that it's being made by a company with wide distribution. I'm not sure that I care for the under-sized bottles, but it's what's inside that counts, right?

A beer that used to be one of my favourites before the current crop of American-style IPA's were released in Ontario. Had almost forgotten about this malt-forward brew after the Duggan's brewery closed, but pleased to grab a sample from the local LCBO. Amazing how the world has changed.

Pours a beautiful amber with decent cappuccino coloured head and lacing. This bottle has caramelized malts in the aroma along with an oxidation and metallic smell that I do not remember from earlier draught pours. Although the bottle was only purchased this afternoon, no idea how long it has been on the shelves or how it was stored.

Sweet flavour of caramelized malts followed by a decent hop bitterness, but few of the citrus or tropical fruit elements that I hope for in an APA. Finish lingers for an impressively long time.

Got this bottle at the LCBO this past summer.

From a 275ml bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, off-white head with good retention. Dark, burnt orange with next to no carbonation. Head fades to a thin film. A splotchy wisp remains leaving some dots behind.

SMELL: Toffee, butterscotch, some bubble gum and light floral notes. Bold enough for sure.

TASTE: Follows the nose. Toffee, butterscotch with light floral bitterness at the swallow. Bold aftertaste with malty sweetness, caramel, toffee, floral notes and some well measured bitterness lingering at the swallow. This is a well balanced English IPA for sure.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes dry on the palate. Good feel. Creamy and full for the style.

OVERALL: This is actually a really good English style IPA, with the malty sweetness of an ESB and more lingering bitterness after the swallow than your average English bitter. Really well balanced, well executed, and flavorful all around. Good beer and recommended to fans of the style.

Having this after an a long hot drive down the 401. A new brewery to me. A lovely copper colour but the head didn't last long. Smells of malt and hops, Very smooth and b itter as an IPA should be. A very good product that I would gladly drink again.

A - Pours dark copper with a one finger creamy white head. Mild carbonation. Bright. Nice stringy lacing with a good half finger of retention.

S - Earthy, citrusy hops with some caramel

T - More caramel and earthy notes with citrus being pushed back alot. Bready also. Hops are still present and nice though. Very balanced.

M - Nice mild bitterness with a little sweetness. Appropriate carbonation with a medium-full body.

O/D - A simple, yet very drinkable IPA. Well balanced. Tame, yet good enough.
