Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. The Beer pours a dark rich brown hue with almost no light passing through the glass when held up to the light.
Tightly packed creamy head, tan colored and about 1 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer.
Aroma is roasted malt and coffee with almost burnt notes and slightly astringent bitterness. The burnt note isnt like a rauch bier but more like overheated coffee.
First sip reveals an average body with very fine spacious carbonation. The texture is smooth and coats my palate each sip. The flavor is roasted malt with a little brown sugar and dark chocolate. Finishes with dry roasted bitter coffee, leaves me very thirsty every sip.
No hints of any booze or any real hop presence anywhere during the sampling.
The beer is easy to drink for a 9.5% brew. I do fine the burnt coffee note to be a little difficult late in the sampling. the beer is good, not outstanding, but a decent imperial stout. I think if you are a coffee drinker you probably enjoy it even more.
