The GateCrasher is a decent IPA from Evanston, IL...certainly better than the Football teams...all Big Ten fans....can yuk yuk that up...yes poor attempt at some humor...Go Bucks...beat Blue. Anyhoo...the beer poured a cloudy copper/orange with thin white head that is leaving a lace. The scent carries almost an amber like malt aroma with some bitter hops. The taste has some bitter hops upfront but almost a burnt bagel on the back. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall its a decent beer....I prefer American IPA with citrus and pine....this is an English style so it snot in my wheel house.

Served in a footed tulip glass (Temperance), quick review from notes.

Hazy and saturated orange body, slim cap of parchment tone foam. Lots of lacing and a lasting head that eventually breaks apart after the first few sips. Tiny trails of carbonation build and release around the edges.

Aroma is reserved, slightly yeasty with some light fruity apricot and citrus peel impressions.

Taste is pleasantly malty without overbearing hop character, though the fruity hop notes appear again as a nice accent. The body is medium and has a nice creamy texture to it. Overall it was a good English IPA, would drink again.

Recently received as an extra in a trade from capnmike, and shared tonight. Thanks man!

Pours out a golden orange-ish, with a half inch head, and a solid amount of lacing.

Smells great, there's some citrusy fruitiness that's quite un-English IPA-like, but then there's some nice classic aromas of toasted bread and caramel.

This is well balanced, and really tasty. It's a bit more citrusy than the typical English IPA, like noted above, but I don't really care, because it tastes good. There's some bready malt flavors, along with some earthy, grassy hop flavors buried slightly under the more American hop flavors.

This one is medium bodied, with a very crisp mouthfeel, and a moderate amount of carbonation. It's one of the more drinkable IPAs that I've had.

I'm not sure how this won at GABF for English IPAs, because it doesn't taste traditionally English. Based on taste alone, it certainly qualifies, though.

12 fl oz. can, with no apparent canned on or freshness date on the can. A new beer from a new to me brewery, the semi-local Temperance Beer Co. from Evanston, Illinois. Acquired a single can of this stuff as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's. I'm unfamiliar with the brewery, but I have nice expectations per the style.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a hazed, honeyed golden orange body with some fine sediment in the glass. Two to three fingers of thick frothy off-white head. Leaves behind nice thick scattered lacing throughout. Looks very nice.

S - The aroma is very fresh, fruity, and juicy. Bitter and citrusy - grapefruit, pine needles, mango, lemons. Very appealing, but it smells more American than English, if that makes sense.

T - A very nice balance of juicy fruity hops and bready honeyed malts. Grapefruit, mango, pine, lemons, honeyed bread malts. Very delicious.

M - Crisp and delicious; very easy to drink. Mild hop resins clinging to the palate. Medium bodied with nice carb.

Overall, an impressive IPA from this brewery, if maybe a tad more American than English, like I said. Still, I will be sure to check out more from these guys.

Temperance Beer Co. Gatecrasher -----4/5.
