Notes/Commercial Description:
This medal winning India Pale Ale is brewed in the true Northwest fashion. It has an intense hop flavor and aroma, with a dry bitter finish. It defintely has enough hops to “send you over the edge.”

Good light orange appearance, frothy head. Big wafting citrus and pine aroma, hits 'em both quite nicely.

Good hop qualities first and foremost, big bitterness, but hops get first billing. Very floral, fresh mouthfeel to it. Alcohol nowhere noticeable, of course they kept it below 6%, which is a nice development. Went extremely well with the salmon. Malt bill is fine and all, but you've heard the typical caramel thing over and over.

This got my vote for the best beer in Boise. Would not hesitate to have again and recommend to those who love hoppy beers.

Haaahhhh-PY!! WOW! Bitter and hoppy. Thick. This brew will grab your attention quickly. The brew came in a chilled can, then poured into a tulip glass.

A: Deep golden, almost orange. A bit like a soft-amber ale.

S: The aroma was that ganja-y like smell you get from a huge, hops-forward IPA. Reminded me of my college roommate smoking a bowl. Delish.

T: Every last thing you expect from a big, hops forward IPA is found in Dagger. Very, VERY hoppy. Very, VERY bitter. Not as malty as some might like; which is to say that the malt does not balance the hops. But, I enjoy that. I want to taste 99% hops, 1% malt.

M: Thick! I prefer a lighter mouthfeel (think: Nooner from Sierra Nevada). Good carbonation.

O: Overall, Dagger Falls IPA gets a solid 4/5 stars. Fantastic IPA translation. It's a big, heavy, hoppy, smelly, wonderful IPA. Since I haven't heard much (in fact i've never heard of this brew at all) I am going to suggest that this is one of the most underrated beers out there. In the crowded field of West Coast IPA's this guy is in the shadow of more known/established IPA's and will need a good marketing campaign to get it's name out.

On-tap at Bittercreek Alehouse in downtown Boise. They claim the IBU count to be a nice round 100...

This beer appears a hazy dark apricot hue, with one fat finger of fine foamy (alliteration, represent!) eggshell white head, which leaves a sudsy curtain of lace around the glass as it recedes, slow and steady-like. It smells of caramel cream, and bitter citrus, pine, and tropical fruit hops. The taste is intensely bitter pine and dried citrus rind, crackery melba toast malt, and a simmering herbal essence. The carbonation is just on the downside from average, the body medium weight and a wee bit zingy, as smoothness is in tough against the pervasive hop astringency. It finishes with a heretofore surprising tapering off of the bitterness, but with no appreciable increase in malt sweetness.

Hoooweee! Hop juice indeed. Tasty, and challenging to be sure, but the real story here is what happens when the malt falls by the wayside, especially in the venerable American IPA. Unbalanced may be fun, as in other indulgent pursuits, but you don't tend to go back for more.

Into a pint glass. Half finger of head on a cloudy, dark straw colored body.
Smell is citrus and pine.
Taste has a strong bitterness with mild malt. Good balance.
Crisp texture with moderate carbonation and medium body.
A solid IPA with a good dose of bitterness that's balanced nicely.

RB

Picked this growler up last night... finally getting around to giving it a go. Poured into my Old Guardian goblet.

1/2" foamy white head has very nice retention and lacing... the brew is a hazed orange.

I can easily smell this brew 2 feet away... pungent pithy citrus... minor pale malt with even a little bit of toasty presence... but this brew is all about the hops... unapologetic.

Huge bitterness... oily citrus zest... lite pale malts mid palate along with the noted toasty malt element... finishes long and hoppy... really pretty dry throughout.... Honestly, the only "real"
bitch I could even remotely come up with is the bitterness up front may be a touch high... but I would never complain.

I forgot how much I like this one... Any NW IPA lover would certainly put this into their rotation if they had access.
