22 oz picked up at the Brewpub today for $5.50 ... Hugely excited to see that Sockeye has finally bottled something other than their Winterfest and the Barley Wine. I've had dozens of these on draft at the brewpub and feel double honored to be the first on BA to review it and the first to review it in bottles. Cheers here we go.

Cool label ... standard Ward Hooper logo off the tap-handle ... mean looking sockeye salmon with little devil horns.

Shared with Brenda mine poured into my New Belgium snifter.

Light copper amber brew .. slightly hop hazed ... 2 finger head ... sticky lacing.

Aroma is nice mix of citrus/floral hoppiness with toasty caramel malts... good dose of ale fruitiness.

Flavor mirrors the aroma with a significant amount of toasted bready notes and touches of sweetness... not overly hoppy at all.. just nicely balanaced. The body is thicker than I remember at the brewpub .... maybe because I let this warm up quite a bit... nice earthy/citrusy finish.

Nothing about this beer is Earth shattering, but it still is very solid. Cheers to Josh and the boys at Sockeye.. and definitely keep up the bottling.

Poured into a Chuckanut pint glass. Pours a cloudy medium coppery amber with a half finger light khaki head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of light caramel and biscuit malt with mild citrus and grassy hops. Flavor is rich biscuit malt developing an interesting grassy hop flavor with light citrus, finishing with residual biscuit and grassy hop bitterness. Exceptional medium creamy body for a pale ale. A nice flavor progression from the deep biscuit malt through a good grassy hop bitterness in the finish. I liked this quit a bit. Picked up a few assorted cans from this brewery on a road trip and this first one gives me no regrets for getting a variety. Looking forward to the rest.

This arrived with a full, light-tan head with decent retention. The nose had a lightly hoppy quality. I read where this was their first signature beer, developed by their initial brewer. The color was a slightly hazy deep-amber/light-gold. The mouthfeel was medium with a solid hoppiness that would have sufficed in some locations that I have visited (KS, OK). The finish had a good bitterness with a lingering citrus quality. It made me curious to try their IPA.

thanks to john galt for this one!

A: pours a deep amber almost red with a nice thin head that dissapears fairly quickly. nice lacing on the side.

S: caramel malt is apparent on the nose at first but is soon followed with a strong spiciness from the hops.

T: very much the same as the taste. caramel malts roll across the tongue at first but is quickly matched in a perfect balance of spicy herbal hops. a slight taste of tobacco, something i dont normally pick up seems to be there as well.

M: a little thin and watery on the palatte. light carbonation.

D: easy drinker even with the slight alcohol burn that usually isn't apparent at 5%. wonderfully balanced.

Hell yeah! Huge thanks to JohnGalt1 for throwing this extra in!

Beautiful dark golden color with a great head and some tremendous lacing...

Sweet malty aroma that is literally laced with hoppiness... Smells wonderful..

What strikes me about this brew is its drinkability. Extremely smooth and malty yet has a hoppiness that finishes bitter but doesn't get old.

This might be one of the best session brews that I've ever had... Excellent work from the crew at Sockeye Brewing....
