Had sample at SN Beer Camp Philly

A-Poured deep nearly black brown with a thick brown head that settled to a film. Nice lacing.

S-Aroma of chocolate, licorice, dark fruits, sugar.

T-Taste is dark roasted coffee, plums, light licorice bitterness. The roasted malt really balances the typical tripel sweetness.

M-Mouthfeel is well balanced with medium carbonation.

O-Overall I thought it was complex and flavorful. I wouldn't call it a tripel thou.

From 03/29/14 notes. Had on tap at Fireworks in Arlington, VA. Menu said it was a "Black Belgian Tripel"...first beer from this brewery.

a - Pours a deep brown, almost black color, with one inch of light tan head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of roasted malts, spice, bananas, citrus hops, apples, fruits, chocolate, toasted malts, light pine hops. Very interesting...some definite black IPA notes but some Belgian spice and bananas.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, bananas, apples, spices, cloves, pepper, dark chocolate, toasted malts, citrus hops, and pine. Again, very interesting mix but it actually works well together.

m - Medium body and low carbonation. No real bitterness, overall pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this; it actually did have some black IPA roasted notes and hops with some Belgian characteristics shining through. Worth checking out and would like to try their other beers.
