(EDIT: Tried again on 11/25 and upping every rating but Look by 0.25).
22oz bomber; no bottling date (for various reasons I am assuming this is freshly brewed, so I don't know why this beer is stated as being 'retired'); poured into a snifter. Pours a dark orange, with a cream colored head; nice lacing. Aroma of spice, pumpkin, perhaps vanilla, and alcohol. (EDIT: aroma is complex and impressive) Taste is of fruit and pumpkin, with a bit of alcohol. (EDIT: I also get cinnamon up front, with some spice and heat on the finish) Mouth-feel is light, but (EDIT: incredibly) creamy and smooth.
This beer smells somewhat like spiced pumpkin bread, and the taste is amazingly smooth and easy to drink. I am not a big fan of flavored or fruity beers, but this stuff is what I would think a pumpkin beer ideally should be: a dessert beer that invokes the pleasantness of fall. (EDIT: This is one of my top pumpkin-flavored beers)

Poured into a snifter.
3.25 A: Clear deep plum color. Two fingers of creamy tan head. Retention isn't the best, but a short ring of lacing is left.
4.75 S: This is quite nice. Big ass pumpkin, vanilla, then pumpkin spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove. Rich creamy caramel, hints of toffee.
5.0 T: Goddamn, this is a great beer. Again lots of pumpkin followed by vanilla and the spices above. The base beer kicks ass as well. Super rich caramel, toffee, a touch of toastiness, molasses. It blends so together - it forms a milkshake like richness with a nice sweetness at an appropriate level.
5.0 M: Heavier medium to heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Rich, velvety and creamy. Perfect here.
5.0 D: This is a helluva beer. It might be the best pumpkin beer out there (I still may like Pumpking with a bit of age on it better) but it surely is the best I've had this year.

Dark brown in color with a fingernail of beige around the rim and otherwise covering the majority of the top. Aroma is of pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, and allspice. I really have to inhale deeply to find it. The taste is heavily spiced with allspice, nutmeg, and pumpkin pie spice. The alcohol is also somewhat detectable in the fade. The mouth is chewy and a bit warm with alcohol.

From the company that brought the pumpkin ale mainstream, their original seasonal specialty steered away from the notion that these ales should be beer first and decorative flavors later. And now, OFallon's Iperial Pumpkin once again ups the ante on taste, power, balance and most of all- intrigue!
With a dark, rusty pour, the ale opens with a dense but short lather of foam. Settling quickly, the alcohols cut through the carbonation and waste no time getting to the point. As the nose hovers, an abundance of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove overcome the senses. Nearly intimidating, the first supple sip enlivens the palate with toasted caramel sweetness and the unmistakable taste of fresh-baked gingersnaps.
With the palate acclimating to the power of taste and the strength of booze, the warming beer offers up it's deeply held secrets: bready, sweet and softly of spice cake, its malty underpinnings retain a starchy and groudy body but relinquishes much of its initial sweetness. Steering slowly toward finish, the spice, bitterness and taut astringency from spice substitutes the duty of hops, meanwhile wafts of rum seem into the fray.
Its decadent sweetness, seeping warmth and lingering viscocity relegates the ale to sipping status rather than the thirst quenching variety, but this is what imperial beer does. Finishing long and warm, the taste sticks with those powerful impressions of gingersnap and rum; and in the most delightful of ways. Treat it like a barleywine and pair it with a soft blue cheese, like gorgonzola with a light honey drizzle.
