Very surprising bitter finish. Funktastic flavor that is very difficult to pin down. I thought possibly from the yeast but dismissed this shortly thereafter. In my opinion, this most likely originated from the use of extracts and or adjuncts in this brew. Would not ever buy again. Sorry O'Fallon's...

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

If it's black, does that mean it has more THC...? Anyway, this stuff pours a dark black-garnet topped by a finger of sandstone foam. The nose comprises char, light vinyl, mandarin orange syrup, and a dash of cocoa powder. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a good element of dark greenery tossed in for good measure (or variety...whichever you prefer). The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, this particular black ale just didn't do it for me. The darker aspects were too charred, to plastic-y, and the hoppier aspects didn't meld with the darker entirely well. Still, there was a definite focus on balance, which was almost achieved.

: A nice thick, dense head that was a medium tan color. A good lacing. Below the head the beer was a very dark brown.red hue, but the center remained opaque.

S: The aroma had dark roasted malt and light caramel.

T: The taste consisted of roasted barely and a little dark roast

M: The body is medium-heavy and very smooth; and, there is very little carbonation.

O: This beer was awesome

This is definitely not an allgrain brew, judging by the odd taste I can't quite finger... Its smell is a hint of either chocolate or coffee, can't quite decide. Poured into a 4oz taster, it still produced a fairly nice lacing. This definitely exudes comfort, not quality. The drinkability overpowers what it lacks in smell, taste, and mouthfeel. One I would come back to, without reason.
