It's been a couple of years since I visited Barleys, so on a trip to town I decided it was time to check out the beer selection at Asheville's most popular beer bar. The downstairs bar was spacious with plenty of wood and about 30-35 taps. No BMC to be seen. All the beers were craft and focused heavily on NC brews which is good for the state's brewers. I saw beers from Highland, Pisgah, French Broad, Catawba Valley Brewing, Edenton and Cottonwood. They also had a few beers from DFH, SN, Pyramid and Unibroue. The upstairs bar, which unfortunately allows smoking, has some pool tables an additional 20 beers on tap. On the day we went, I saw SN Bigfoot, Rogue Imp. Pils, Duck Rabbit Wee heavy, and others. No BMC present. Service was average. Basically, the bartender ignored us unless you asked for something. He seemed more interested in reading the newspaper. That's the only negative I could find in Barleys. Regardless, this is a must stop for any BA visiting Asheville.
