I have wanted to visit this place for as long as I have been on this site, and finally got a chance to swing by today. Like others have noted, the signage for the place isn't the most obvious, so I drove right by and had to turn around. The store is set in an old house. When I pulled up in the back of the place, there was a ring of chairs in the grass filled with guys smoking cigars. Ahh. What a wonderful aroma to my nose. Nice tobacco smell when you first enter the store, as there is a huge walk-in humidor to the right as you walk in. The beer is sort of scattered about with stacks of cases and sixers smattered around. Though the majority of the beer is to the left near the back. In the very back, there's a room dedicated to wine, which is nice as well. As for the selection, this place has by far the greatest selection of Belgian brews in the area. I was amazed at the variety of Belgian beers they carried. Many of which I hadn't seen anywhere else around. There's one small cooler section that carries a good amount of 12's and 22's, as well as some kegs. I didn't see any growlers at all. The corner of the "beer section" is dedicated to domestic craft offerings, of which they had a decent selection. Grabbed a bottle of Old Rasputin XIV and a cigar and I was on my way. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

[Edit: They do now have price tags on all of their beers - in response to SaCkErZ9's review].

great place! a little crowded as the new location is a tad small but that seems to add to the homieness... one small tap on a kegerator in the back just for tastings and a small room on the side to smoke in. as the name suggests this store is beer, wine, and tobacco. upon approaching there is a strong smell of cigar and pipe smoke and its almost overbearing, but once your inside it fades. immediately greeted by the staff who was extremely polite, respectful, and very helpful. they knew their stuff. relatively small beer selection with a lot of trappist selections and and a few gift packages. prices ranging anywhere from $2-16 per bottle. small glass front fridge with a decent cold selection and some kegs. NOTE: THERE IS NO DRINKING ON PREMISES AS THEY DO NOT HAVE THAT PERMIT! I went and did not know that so don't plan on hanging there unless you're smoking a pipe or cigar. they also have a small glassware selection and even a fancy perfume decanter selection (not sure what that's about.) at any rate, its a good local buisness and I enjoy shopping there. as another note: beers are arranged by brewer (brand) and are mostly 750s and no growlers. just wish they had there on premise permit.
G-d bless

The Pipe and Pint has moved to a new location at 3160 Spring Garden street, just down the road from the old place. The new place is in what looks to be an old house. The house is right on the road and I nearly drove by as the signage was hidden.

I have been to other place several times but like this place better. As the name suggests, they sell beer and tobacco. The tobacco smell is a bit nauseating when walking in, which is one thing I dont like about this place. Another thing i detest is the lack of any kind of price tags on the beers. It is so annoying to have to ask what price everything is. When that happens, I tend to leave without buying anything because the hassle is too much. On this case, I left empty handed.

The guy working the counter seemed pretty nice. I just wish they would get some price tags; that is so annoying. I doubt I will come back. Plenty of other places that dont smell like smoke and have prices on the beers.

I visited this location a recent trip to Greensboro. Upon looking outside it did not appear that this location would be that good. However upon entering and going to the back, I noticed that they carried quite a nice selection of brews and quite a few I had been looking for. The cigar smell was actually pleasant when I went inside (I don't smoke). This might have been because there were only two gentlemen in the store at the time in the lounge area. The employees were very nice and chatted with me for awhile and made some suggestions on which other locations I should stop at for some hard to find brews. They also had a VERY nice glassware selection on the top of the shelves. This place is definitely worth dropping in to check it out.

There is a very similar place up in Ohio I remember from a few years back and as soon as I walked in that was the only thing I could think of, though the selection in Ohia trumpted this by far. Still though it was relatively solid and a nice little stop. I stress the word little as it is indeed a small store but they made good use of the space keep a good selection of the craft available in the area in stock for sure. Prices were a touch higher then what I saw at Total wine but over not a bad place to stop into.

If you haven't been in in a while, whoa!

The massive disorganization is gone and it looks great. Not sure what caused the change but it's a huge difference.

The selection now seems to be a few of the micro main-stays (Founders, Bells, Dogfish, etc.) and a TON Belgians.

Those of you who remember amazing service from the owner but stuff stacked everywhere, well, the service is the same but stuff is no longer stacked on bookcases (and in and around most of the store).

The main business is still cigars, pipes, etc but the owner seems very passionate about the bier. Nothing is priced but just ask, he seems more than happy to provide you one.

This is my favorite bier store in the triad or triangle. Larry, the owner, is one of the best customer service people I have encountered. He is also friendly, ready with a recommendation about bier, port, or cigars, and is always open to conversation about bier, cigars, and politics.

The bier choice is eclectic. Many american micros as well as belgian and german selections. There are couches and a few chairs for you to sit and enjoy the atmosphere of the place...very homey.

Overall, Larry has created a nice, friendly bier store that has a loyal following and clientele. I recommend it.
