At the store where I bought this bottle, the floor guy warned me: "You know this is brewed with spelt, right?", as if it were actually brewed with old underwear or roofing nails. I assured him that I'd read the label and knew what horrors lay ahead. In fact, no horrors lay ahead. This is one of the better new (to me) beers I've had lately. The aroma and the taste are quite soft; the maltyness is overlaid with flowers and a sort of honeysuckle perfume that makes it a delight to drink. There's just enough wheat in here to add a slight banana edge; otherwise I found this to be very much like a light Saison.

Don't be afraid of the spelt. Instead, be afraid of the beer salesman that is afraid of the spelt.

330 ml stubby bottle, thanks to oh6gdx and chris_o. ABV is 6.6%. Contains barley malt, wheat malt, oats and spelt, hops, yeast, coriander and orange peel. Hazy golden colour, huge head. Typical "Belgian" aroma: ale yeast, spices, fermenting fruits. The flavour is spicy but also very refreshing for a beer of this strength, moderately sweet with decent hops in the finish. Just a touch of citrus. Well balanced and pleasant to drink.

Poured into tulip.
Cloudy amber with thick white head, good retention.
Smell - sour, creamy, cereals, bready, lemony, spicy.
Taste - kasha-like, slightly sour, slightly estery and spicy, herbal hops.
Medium body, high carbonation.
Rather interesting multigrain beer.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/18/2010. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, light banana, honey, biscuit, light clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, hops, and pale malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, light banana, honey, biscuit, light clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Slight earthy yeast spiciness/hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, honey, biscuit, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, hops, and pale malt sweetness; with a good malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice and pleasant Belgian pale ale. All around good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and pale malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. It’s not as bold on yeast flavors as other Belgian pale ales, but still a nicely enjoyable offering.
