Double Negative pours jet black with burnt orange highlights. A long lasting tan head leaves abundant lacing. Aromas bursting from the glass include coffee, bitter chocolate, caramel, black currant and blueberry. Creamy and viscous on the palate, the flavor initially follows the nose. A pop of smooth bitterness comes after, and then a lingering, roasty finish.

Great pour - textbook like. Nice deep color, good sized head that lingers.
Nice rich smell.
Taste is rather ordinary for this style. It is much less hoppy than I would have expected.
Good beer, solid.

A: silly jet black color with a thin fake tan head
S: charred roasted malts and dark chocolate. Cola and milk chocolate behind that. Some licorice notes and some dark caramel and toffee
T: roasted malts and cola. Raw cocoa beans and sticky toffee. Some charred oak bitterness and a hint of leather. Molasses and bitter dark chocolate with some sweet milk chocolate behind that
M: fuller side of medium with low-moderate carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel
O: fantastic beer. Amazing harmonization and balance, given the abv

Had this on tap at the Leaf!
A: pours a dark brown/black body with a small, dark tan head with minimum retention and lacing.
S: smells roasted, coffee and sweet chocolate notes with hints of sweet alcohol.
T: sweet, chocolate taste with subtle alcohol notes.
M: velvety and smooth.
O: solid feel and taste combo; decent overall.

L: Poured a cola-colored brew that formed a thin khaki head, dissipates quickly to form a thin trace of lacing and minimal lacing. Held up a light, this beer is a crunchy, impenetrable dark chocolate hue.
S: Coffee, malts, oak, wood, a hint of dark fruit.
T: Coffee-forward, plenty of roasted malts, baker's chocolate, tobacco, and faint char. Some hops towards the finish. Nice and bitter finish. The classification here is an American Imperial Stout; however, this tastes almost closer to a Russian.
F: Medium-to-full bodied. Oily, a little thin but with a lasting aftertaste. Mild carbonation. Not quite as slick as other stouts.
O: I think this should be classified as a RIS. Bitter profile, nice booziness without being overpowering, and with plenty of coffee and malt flavors that characterize the imperial stout category. It is not a top-tier stout, as it lacks a truly differentiating factor, but it is a solid offering that was a delicious late-evening treat.

Tap pull at Stillwater Grill, Ft. Myers, FL.
Pours flat black with a tan head. Good lacing.
Aromatic.,. ‘chocochino’, toffee, dark fruit.
Taste follows distinctly, delicious full flavor Stout! Chocolate coffee and plum up front, roasted malt middle, nice hop note to give a slightly bitter finish.
Feel is creamy, low to medium carbonation. Attractively thin for the style.
Overall, a fine effort that gets really expressive as it warms.,.

Double Negative by Grimm is a perplexing brew. It has a definitive Russian style but with a smooth and rich body. It has just enough bitterness to keep it as a RIS. The dark fruits open during the warm up to create a full experience. Great stout here.

Part of a 500 ml bottle 4 pack purchased on line from the brewery. Bottle date 2022. 4 pack purchased on 11/12/22. Poured into a tulip glass.
This pours a deep onyx. Nice creamy off-white head which hangs around. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa which reflects in the taste. Slightly tannic flavor with a subtle cocoa bite but a nice velvety “Long Island “ smoothness. This is definitely one of the best Imperial Stouts I’ve had! Great work Grimm!

Solid black appearance with an above average body. Light carbonation with a bit of a slick oily feel
Aroma is roasted malt, mild char, black coffee, dark chocolate and a bit of earthiness which I think was from fruit.
Taste is mild sweetness with a dry coffee bitterness. Sweet fruit with earthy bitter wood.
Overall an excellent top notch beer

It’s tough to do a great imperial stout without adjuncts to make it different, but this one does it. Really improves as it warms up and rounds out. Roasty, malty, just the right body with an assertive alcohol presence. A longtime want that didn’t disappoint.

Black with an of white foam lace.
Clean hops, dark chocolate.
Clean, touch of bitterness. Some baker's chocolate, very traditional though and while I don't want pastry this is tame to my palate.
Thin, not what I want.
