Stronger version of a biere de garde, toasted bready malt body notes of spicy French Aramis hops, full bodied warming alcohol finish

10.5 oz. goblet pour from the source.
A- Burnt orange and hazy. White head is light and only retains at a ring with only a few speckles of lacing.
S- A little vinous. Some toasty malt character and a little brown sugar. Spices come up, but very subtle.
T- Pretty sweet in flavor. Bready. Still comes off vinous. Spicy notes are more noticeable in the taste than the smell. But overall pretty malty.
M- Medium body. Carbonation is a little low. The finish is wet, but leaves a slightly spicy and alcoholic dryness.
O- Not super impressed with this one, especially as a recent GABF and WBC medalist. Pretty sweet, not so balanced, feel is just okay. And it is much stronger than what I would guess.

I enjoyed this in a goblet at Barren Hill.
The color is deep amber w/mild haze and thin white head with lace and visible carbonation and good retention. The smell has a full malt aroma with hint of spice and light pear with toasted grain and subtle caramel accent with light spice and very fragrant with nice dried fruit and mild apricot scent. The feel has depth of maltiness with mild spice and semi-high carbonation with light sweetness and low alcohol influence with a dry finish.
The taste is pleasant with dried fruit presence and caramel from the malt giving a melanoidin type flavor with light toasted flavor and light pear form the yeast which also brings a mild woody element with slight yeast phenolic note and mild hop which is nice and adds to the complexity leading to a dry finish. Overall I loved this-pretty great example of this style, perhaps one of the best I have tasted.

Appearance: Arrives with a burnt orange color and a frothy though small head; plenty of lacing action
Smell: Bread and treacle with spicy herbal hop tones
Taste: Treacle coated bread pudding, up front, with a growing spicy herbal character building; somewhat sweet and boozy in the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet
Overall: A really interesting, amped-up, Biere de Garde
