Georg (named in honor of George A. Schilling) is a complex, dark Bavarian-style lager with traditional Munich malt taking center stage, presenting notes of nuttiness and bread with a touch of caramel. While complex in flavor, this traditional brown lager is dry and sessionable. Prosit!

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark amber-brown body with a medium-sized, airy, ivory-hued head. Light lacing.

Smell: Toasted breadcrusts, toasted nuts with a thin toffee sheen and an underlying earthiness. So nutty.

Taste: More toasted breadcrust, more toasted nuts (actually, fairly pronounced toasted nuts) with toffee and chocolate powder though not much imparted sweetness. Minimal lightly herbal hop and bitterness. Some raisiny fruitiness showing. Drying finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Nutty!

Clear dark amber-brown with two fingers of dark khaki head. Rocky dissipation leaves soapy lacing.

Mild aroma of leather and nuts.

Similarly mild tasting again with leather and some nuttiness, but a quick added kiss of caramel sweetness and finishing with a light earthy, burnt-bread bitterness.

Medium bodied and fairly creamy with fairly strong carbonation.

Very light tasting. Nice balance and easy drinkability.

16 oz can, gifted to me by Ian after hiking in Jockey Hollow.

Pours a hazy deep amber/light brown color with a big creamy off-white head. Great head retention. Toasted bready malt aroma with mild earthy noble hops. Deep, nutty, toasty, bready malt flavor. Medium bodied and light enough on its feet that it never becomes sweet or cloying. Clean and smooth drinking. I could drink several of these in a row with ease, which is the sign of a great beer to me. An excellent Dunkel where the sum is greater than its parts.

Pours a brownish amber color with two fingers of off-white head. The nose is reminiscent of rye bread. The flavor also has the same bready quality with a mildly sweet finish.

This is a very good effort but it comes just short of what I would call "full-bodied" and "full-flavored."

A- 16oz can pours into a becher glass with a mostly clear deep amber to brown body. The cap rises to a finger high with a silky and frothy texture and fair retention. Lacing forms with a few thin webs.

S- Very much down the toasty, caramel, nutty, slightly buttery rich malt profile in the aroma. A touch of cocoa joins that party as well as brown sugar sweetness and the slightest hint of dark dried fruits. Bready.

T- Toasty malts again drive the beer's character. Nutty brown malts, bread, caramel, raisins, a touch of roast and cocoa as well as hints of toffee. Crusty whole grain bread comes to mind.

MF- Light bodied with a foamy and puffy consistency. The carbonation is fairly high and it has a slight slickness to it. Bittersweet finish with some roasty vibes.

Satisfies the style quite nicely with a ton of toasty grains, breadiness, a touch of roast and some fruits. Love these classic styles that remind you that hops don't have to be the focus of a brew.

Canned on 9/24/20; consumed on 11/28/20

Pours a clear, deep mahogany with crimson edges and capped with over two fingers of thick, almost creamy, off-white foam; solid head retention leaves a slim layer of cap, a moderate, frothy collar, and an array of webby/spotty lacing lining the walls of the glass.

Aroma bursts with a bready yeast complexion rife with earthy spice, used coffee grounds, and robust, fresh brown bread coursing throughout the bouquet; a minerality develops over time, soon followed by chocolately esters and toasted bread crusts cleanly rounding out the close.

Taste opens with caramel contributing a fleeting sweetness against a predominant, clean minerality; a touch of doughy yeast builds over the mid-palate into a back end that 'pops' with crisp, toasty bread and a darkening roasted malt character finishing.

Mouthfeel is lighter-bodied though brings a moderate-high carbonation, taut and fluffy, to add heft over the palate; heavily drying from the start and especially through the mid-palate, a consistency bordering on thin into the back end is leveled by a previously established crispness into the finish.

The brilliant, casual, and focused depth of the aroma is largely let down by a flavor profile falling short of that same intense balance, instead opting for a more generic, flighty approach to traditional style characteristics; decidedly safe, though structured more than competently enough to remain largely satisfying.

From the can, it pours a slightly hazy brown color with a modest light tan head that slowly reduces to a ring and continent. In the nose, it is roast malty with a touch of caramel. In the mouth, the same - not too much caramel, but the roast malt comes through.
