Saisons, or Farmhouse Ales, were originally brewed as a summer seasonal in the French-speaking region of Belgium. Dry and crisp, our “Green Bench Saison” is packed with fruity esters similar to citrus fruits and spicy, peppercorn-like phenols from our farmhouse yeast strain.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep golden orange topped by a dense two finger white head which retains well but fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with some lacing.
S: Smells of light funk and some orchard fruits with a little spice.
T: Taste is light funk and some slight chalky with some light tartness, hints of orchard fruits and pale malts with a little white pepper. On the finish this one has a little oak, some peppery spice, lingering tartness and a little more of those orchard fruits.
M: This beer is fairly light in body but it is not watery. Carbonation is slightly prickly while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this was a pretty nice saison. Good flavors with some nice complexity. It could have used a little more boldness but overall it definitely wasn't a bad beer. It's worth trying if you can find it and enjoy the style.

Finally I found a brewer in Florida that has gotten close to figuring the Belgian yeast thing. (My theory is that warm humid climates have trouble protecting the yeast from those elements.) So Green Bench probably has figured it out... but consider also I am speculating wildly since this is my first ale from them.
Big fluffy head. I like Big Fluffy. Smells are mostly saison, with sweet malts and wheat and, yes, yeast to make the fruit medley. Tastes have no surprises, but the spices pleasantly and modestly dry out my mouth. If there is brett in this bottle, Green Bench did that yeast correctly for me. (I like Brett in small doses only.)
I had this with five different leftovers and De Banc Vert made them all taste better. So it passes my test of an above average saison. I look forward to having Green Bench saisons on tap in St. Pete's next winter !

500ml bottle, 6.8 ABV (on label); I could not find a bottling date on the label or on the bottle.
Based on the rating (3.81) I was a little disappointed in this beer in that the finish was a bit bitter (perhaps that's the dry-ness?) and somewhat one-dimensional; still, a decent wild ale for my tastes.

On tap. Poured a cloudy, golden-yellow color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. Very phenolic smelling with cracked wheat and spices. Fruity tasting with some funkiness and spicy bite.
