Formerly known as Calhoun Claw

Inspired by the classic Lagers of Bohemia, our Pilsner has a crisp body balanced by a quick snap of refreshing bitterness. Brewed with a blend of Czech and American hops, this beer is full of flavor but still easy drinking.

Pours a crystal clear honey gold with a thick white head. Decent lacing. Aroma is biscuits, corn and some grassy hops. Flavor follows the nose, sweet corn and yeasty biscuit. Feel is light bodied and well carbonated. Overall, spot on for a German style pilsner. A bit surprising considering the humble brewery.

12oz can into a tall pilsner glass.
L: Pours a rich crystal clear gold w/a !" soft soapy white head that recedes to a skin & edge foam. Fair carbonation. Minimal lacing.
S: Bready, floral, honey, caramel malts, lightly grassy, gentle "spicy" hops.
T: Clean grassy hops, light bread, earthy grains, rich caramel, light lemon, a hint of honey. Slightly bitter with a medium length linger. Overall fairly full flavored for it's style.
F: Affably crisp & smooth med-light bodied mouth feel w/a moderately fast & clean finish.
O: A delicious tasting and quenching American Pilsner that is very well balanced, crisp & refreshing. It is very good in it's style.

Pours a nice golden colour, initial impression is a mellow beer that tries to please everyone. Third sip brings some more cracker/breast notes and some very mild hops - finish is slightly bitter, but not like an Urquell. Not bad.

Appearance: Pours a clear, syrupy, deep golden color that looks like honey. A mild and thick white head that fades quickly. SRM of 12 (4.00)

Aroma: Aroma of white bready, crackery, and sweet honey. Some sweet lemon citrus to follow. Quite a bit of yeast. A little bit of grass and honeyflower. (3.75)

Flavor: The malts are showcased here. Lots of bread, yeast, and rubber. Rather salty too to give it the Czech notes. Some suds corn, and honey again on the flavor. Some grassy pepper on the back end to partially dry the palate. Yet it finishes sweet. No citrus. A little diacetyl, but not near the Urquell level. (3.75)

Feel: Heavier bodied. Lower carbonation. Creamy on the mouth. A slight burning alcohol warmth. Definitely some pepper, but leaves a mild sweetness on the tongue. (4.00)

Compared to Bent Paddle Classic Cream Ale 6/5/20: More bready and honey aromas. Less earthy honey and flower. Overall, stronger carbonation.

Compared to Trader Joe's Premium Lager 6/12/20: Pours a slightly darker color. More honey aromas. Less Vienna bread.

Compared to Trader Joe's Josephbrau Czech Pils 9/22/20: Pours a similar color. More bready and honey aromas. Less orange, lemon, and Belgian spice.

Compared to Dakota Soul 11/25/20: Pours a lighter color. More white crackery malt flavors. Less salt, butter, and grains. A lighter body, with less bitterness. Milder and sweeter.

Compared to Bahaus' Wonderstuff 12/10/20: Pours a similar appearance with a milder head. More buttery and bready aromas. Less citrus and honeysuckle. Slightly more full body with more yeast. Very similar.

Compared to Leinenkuga's Honeyweiss 1/13/21: Similar in appearance. More bread and citrus. Less wet wheat, corn mash, adjunct honey.

Compared to Pilsner Urquell 1/27/21: Pours a slightly lighter color. More white cracker, white bread, citrus on the aroma/flavor. Less Munich malt and diacetyl. More yeast and lighter overall.

Compared to Odell's Colorado Lager 3/5/21: Slightly darker. More bread, lemon, butter. Less soft pale malts. Simlar year. Heavier, sweeter, and drinks more like an Ale, less like a lager.

Overall: Completely mixed reviews here on BA and not a real consensus on this one. I would describe it as a heavier and more malty. Lots of honey, but also some saltiness making it lean toward a Czech Pils. It's mild though. Similar to a Blonde ale with a noble hop bitterness and less citrus. That wasn't very helpful. So it fits the mark of a Czech Pils, but with slightly more honey flavor. (Current Rating: 3.78)
*Compare to First Ave, but probably a larger body. Could also compare again to Wonderstuff. Also could compare to Dakota again.

Had on tap. Parts of this I liked and other I did not. Let's start with the good, a satisfying golden pour with white foam head. I really like the malts in the taste, both german and czech variety, the slightly lemon and floral hops and the crisp finish. I wasn't wild about the yeast that seemed to hold the beer back a bit, especially true in the nose and in feel. Perhaps a touch more carbonation would free it up a bit. Still, a solid pilsner for out on the boat

Not bad, per say. But, leaves you wanting more. Not much head, dissipates in about a minute. Slight floral notes, but very slight. The hop after taste is the best part about it. Just makes me want to go out and get a bolder Czech lager.

From a can. Very carbonated. Bubbly head that started big but dissipated quickly. The hops overwhelm the aftertaste. In my opinion, it's a little too hoppy for a pilsner.

Had this from singles but this is from the tap room, served in a willibecher. Pours a very slightly hazy and deep shiny gold with disappointing head/lacing. Nose brings some malty kind of heavy bready and spicy notes, but a little muted, especially in terms of the hops. On the tongue, still substantial malts, and a lot more hops. I usually don't mind hoppy bitterness in a pils, but this is pretty aggressive, especially on the finish. Pretty substantial body. Integration of everything is a little rough, but there's plenty of good stuff here.

Very disappointed in this. Had it in the taproom and it was decent about a year ago. This is poor. Buttery aroma and taste...more of an american hop bitterness on the finish...lemony notes finally emerge.... but tough to cut through all the butter.. Beyond that....Bright gold in color but too hazy for a pils and not clean or clear enough

Floral pilsner, sharp and crisp, lingering hop profile. Decent beer when trying to get away from the heavy stuff
