1L swingtop growler, split

Good name for a beer - probably a nod to the b&w film bearing the same name. Great looking beer with a huge chocolate cap. Sightglass coffee was used here and it's extremely potent and heavy handed. I really don't get much smoke, even as this warms to room temperature. Nice and roasty - a solid porter

Pours pitch black with a mocha colored head that pretty quickly dissipates leaving a thin ring around the edge of my snifter. The aroma is intoxicating, I could smell this as soon as I popped open the growler and I continue to smell it as it sits on the table away from me. Roasted espresso, iced coffee, milk chocolate, smoke, and vanilla on the nose. The front of the palate opens up with sweet milk chocolate, in the middle it evolves to freshly roasted coffee and burnt malt, the smoke is very subtle while the coffee really comes forward. Back end of the palate closes with roasted malt and a nice bitterness. Quite good, though it could be a little more complex. I don't get any of the vanilla in the taste that I picked up in the aroma. The smoke really lingers on the palate rounding this out.

Edit: Had to come back to this one. As this warmed I started to get some vanilla and this beer really started to become more complex. Think Victory at Sea when you imagine this beer....

C&C looks great with jet black color and a nice 1/2 inch tan foamy head. Very inviting. Smells smokey, coffee and a little burnt. Really great flavor because the smokiness, malt presence and coffee are perfectly balanced. You don't get tired of drinking it. Pretty smooth mouthfeel and overall one of the best adjunct porters I've ever had.

Delicious lightly smoked Porter with shuttle coffee flavor and fairly strong chocolate notes. After breath is truly cigarettes. After taste is chocolate. Wonderfully complex.

Served in a tulip glass at Ale Arsenal.

Black and imposing. Light head fades. Smell is incredible. Coffee. Licorice. Smoke. Taste is excellent. Sweet. Bitter-dark. Loads of coffee. Vanilla. Nice stout. Incredibly compelling. Highly recommended. Will have again.

I'm not usually impressed by U.S. beers. Well, this beer gives you a bang for the buck and is ridiculously delicious. Congrats U.S.for combining my coffee and beer fetish both. Signed, the girlfriend.

Despite its name, this does not taste like an ashtray mixed with coffee grounds—nor does it taste like a Jim Jarmusch film. But it is tasty!
Pours a jet black with cocoa-colored foam. There’s a strong roasty coffee aroma to it, with a mellowed, smooth coffee taste. Cold-press, or cold-drip, I imagine, as there’s not an acidic/bitterness from the coffee on this. Robust and hearty, perfect for SF summer!

Appearance: pitch black with a nice dark brown/cream colored head

Smell: Smoked malts come through first, but not the ordinary smell associated with smoked malts: this smells like a burning cigarette, which is pretty wild imo. Chocolate/cacao comes through next, with bitter dark roast coffee following and hints of charcoal finish.

Taste: sweet chocolate malts, cigarette smoke, moderate coffee--bitter dark roast.

Feel: medium carbonation, thick mouthfeel, with lingering cigarette flavors lingering long after consumption.

Overall: a really, really solid porter, borderline stout. The coffee flavor is mild, but apparent. The smoke flavor is literally like cigarettes, which is somewhat mind-blowing. The smoke is most prominent, but balanced fairly well with wonderful sweet chocolate malt flavors. The cigarette smoke lingers well after finishing each sip, which is interesting. I really enjoyed this beer. I'd recommend seeking it out.

If you haven't had Coffee and Cigarettes on Nitro, you haven't lived.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I am now, thanks to this beer. I first tried during San Francisco beer week this year and was smitten. Since then, I've had each of their different batches maybe except the 2nd and the cask conditioned with doughnuts. Wish I could compare each batch side by side but that might be asking too much. Back to the review, C&C on nitro is the way to go. Its much creamier and sweeter, like a coffee with just the right cream and sugar. If you prefer black coffee, you might want to avoid this but I still reckoned a taste if you're lucky enough. (Could this be produced barrel aged? Maybe with a red wine barrel?) Long story short, (too late) this is the best coffee porter/stout I've come across and I look forward to each batch that pops up more than any other beer/style from Cellarmaker Brewing. Keep it up, guys.

Hot tip: It has a great shirt too.

Poured from a 1/2 growler (week old).

Appearance: Pours a deep, dark brown. Little to no head (tan in color). Very little lacing [2/5]

Aroma: Coffee (Kenyan?) and apples. Roasty and smokey too. Very intriguing. [4.25/5]

Taste: Roasted malt and big-time coffee. Fruity esters (apple and fig) are also noticeable. [4/5]

Feel: Carbonation is spot on; however, the beer is rather thin for the style and especially for the abv. [3/5]

Overall: A nice, new porter that is All about the coffee (n.b: I am a coffee fiend). This is a coffee lover's beer. [4/5]

Nitro pour, so you just know it looks good or at least like pretty much any black beer on on nitro. Black body with a creamy tan head, that creamy beige. Tons of lacing. Pretty pour for their first nitro selection. Aroma has huge chocolate, just a big dose of semi sweet chocolate sauce. There's mild smoke, which kinda gets lost in the chocolate. Some caramel. Solid roast. Pretty big coffee, really good flavor. Taste has plenty of chocolate but more roast and coffee. There's probably a little more smoke, still fairly mild. Mild cola. The coffee is recognizably from Sightglass - I like coffee - and has a nice roast level with some chocolate, vanilla and berry flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy but a bit less so than most nitro pours - no idea if that is about the beer, a conscious decision or just early kinks with the nitro tap. Very solid beer. Better than I remember it from last time. The coffee and chocolate flavors come together very well, and it works perfectly with the smooth nitro pour. Delicious. Probably the best non-hoppy beer that I've had from Cellarmaker.
